Once again, as perfect a June day as one could wish!

Bit too warm for me, but luckily(sort of) I was up early and so able to get the big shop done before the car became too much of an oven. There is a welcome breeze but that increases the need to be careful of sunburn, and it's sucking the moisture out of the explosion of growth in the garden. The direction of the breeze will make things nicer for visitors to the coast than last week.

A disappointing afternoon after a glorious morning. The sun disappeared behind some very thick black cloud and hasn't been seen since 2.30. It keeps on looking as if we're in for a torrential downpour but it never does. Still very warm though.

Almost clear skies all day down here! It felt a lot warmer than the 24 C on my max-min. I decided I lacked the energy for a long ride, but ended up doing a 6-mile walk instead!

When the sun was out it was burning hot and seemed much more than the forecast 23 degrees, I would guess 27 or 28 degrees. That all disappeared once the thick cloud obscured the sun - something else not forecast.

Poor forecasting for today but at least it has stayed dry and warm.

Cloudy morning for the partial eclipse, but managed to see it briefly from the kitchen window (through the pigeon netting!):

"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                    Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."

That's not a solar eclipse! It's a Rich Tea biscuit with a bite taken out of it.

                          That’s wonderful!

We had heavy cloud yesterday and I think the sane today.

Here, fells shrouded in mist / murk / drizzle..... and amazingly, on summer settings, the central heating switched itself on!!

Thick cloud here today as yesterday but there are signs that the sun could try to force its way through. The temperature indoors is still 23 degrees after the heat of the previous few days so definitely no heating on in here!

Same indoors temperature here earlier - I was pleased to have woken up at five this morning, and opened up all the windows to let the comparatively cool air ventilate through - it was 16 C outdoors. Now nice and comfortable again inside, the overnight clag has lifted and is starting to disperse, though whether or not cloud breaks as much as it did yesterday remains to be seen - there are at least two layers as compared with only one yesterday, and it feels more humid.

Make the most of the relative seasonal warmth, however, because it looks likely to break down and become cooler from next Wednesday or Thursday, with temperature maxima back to around the 19-20 C range in the south.

Tomorrow, hopefully a long cycle ride over towards Chiswick and Hammersmith river front via Clapham, Wandsworth, Putney, Barnes and Mortlake, starting out after breakfast while the air is still fresh following tonight's expected switch in wind direction to the NW, and before the sun gets to work - Hammersmith Bridge is still out of bounds, so it will be Thames Pathway all the way from Putney Bridge round to Mortlake, thence crossing the river by Chiswick Bridge, and home in time for tea - and J to Z on 3! En route it might be possible to give Fulham Palace a visit, at any rate the grounds, never in memory having been there, although there is a photo snap of me in pram there in 1946!
