25 here and some hazy high cloud appearing. Pretty warm on a modest 5k bike jaunt just now. Put a few toms out yesterday which a friend gave us. My own are still a bit measly. Planted out some runners and courgettes earlier today.

Yes it's going to be another warm day although in these parts the easterly airstream tempers things somewhat - especially on the coast - but not the UV values. I got the grass cut before 10 and will now stay inside until later in the day to avoid getting too hot.

Some nice classic thundery breakdown skies shaping up here right now, though whether it will fire off hereabouts or catalyse further up country as the elevated convergence line moves north remains to be seen. I love this kind of weather even though it can be oppressive and just too much if it lasts more than a couple of days. The temperature at Chertsey has reached 28 C in the past hour - the highest official recorded temp anywhere thus far in 2021.
Edit 2 hours later:
My goodness me! - thunderstorms are really taking off now over NE France, but seem reluctant to make a jump and follow the dinghy-borne refugees. This might indicate the nature of the storms as being surface-generated - the waters of the English Channel still being too cold to support that kind of convection, which apparently needs at least 25 C surface temperatures to engender cumulus growth into cumulonimbus. Two spherics which have registered just off the Brighton coast could just be Sussex sites registering distant lightning flashes.Last edited by Serial_Apologist; 02-06-21, 15:08.

Light cloud forecast for here until the sun comes through in the mid-afternoon. However, the sun is trying to break through now and I think the cloud will lift sooner rather than later. Promised temp of 22 degrees, not as good as past few days but the wind that spoilt yesterday has gone."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
