Here are a number of shots taken of the S coast today of thunderstorms. I share them because it is rare to see such dramatic thunder clouds in this country, commoner in America or tropical lands. Included are good examples of "whales mouths" I referred to a few days ago, misnaming them - one can see the reason for the description!

They look incredible, S_A - never seen that effect before. Wonderful contrasts of shade and colour in there. We've been having a few big fat rainbows this last few days - otherwise just drear.

Another mixed day, I think here. Although, I think today won’t look too bad.

It's another chilly day of thick cloud, rain and strong winds. I think it's rained every day this month and we've barely seen any sun at all.

Living room temp has remained only just about acceptable over the last few days (around 19 C). Last night bedroom was down to 16C but I have resisted on principle rather than out of tight-fistedness switching the heating back on. Due to warm up over the next few days so we might have got away with it.

I must admit I've kept my central heating system on - only another day of this! That said, one hopes this time they've got their optimism right: today was going to be dry, from what I could glint from the scanty forecast, but it was raining quite hard just now, and a cold wind to go with it.

Volunteer gardening rather a trial this morning - cold, with brief showers becoming more frequent as the morning went on until it started raining in earnest about 11-45. Annoyingly the sun had come out about 11-15 and it got rather warm so we took waterproofs off, only to have to don them smartish shortly after.
I have been putting on the heating or lighting the woodburner on several days, as the wet and wind and lack of sun has made the inside of the house too chilly for comfort come evening.

Rain started here around that time and hasn’t stopped much since and like you in the east not very warm here either.

And, indeed, the ominous did come - mid-p.m.
                    Shoaled it down!

Not too bad, at the moment but I think we will be getting some rain later.

Hopefully not! Hopefully now dry for the next 5 days at least!

...and getting warmer possibly - ssh but there may even be a dry BH weekend, so probably the County will be full, hopefully without the prospect of an Indian ‘Variant’ Summer!

Temperatures are forecast to be up to 21 C by Friday here, nighttime minima low teens, and could exceed these values further west and north west as air coming off the still cold sea warms up under inland insolation. The only "fly in the ointment" would appear to be Sunday, from a weak front moving north.

Cold, wet and generally unpleasant for my short shift at work. There was a school group in so the place was not completely dead, but few actual visitors and several no-shows(museum passes so no financial penalty to not keeping bookings), so too many staff and not enough to do, some outside, all cold.
Hoping it will at least be dry tomorrow as a friend is coming over to cut the remains of my beech hedge down with his electric chain saw, and rain would not be helpful.
