I remember well the thick fog we used to get in the 1960s but most of that was almost certainly smog caused by smoking chimneys, I think. My late father got hopelessly lost on a road he knew well in one such fog in 1964 and never forgot the real fear of driving in it.

Whether or not living in rural areas, I don't remember these fogs. Probably just as well!

Looks like it's going to be an overcast day.

... this is our serial, and I claim my $64,000 -

Cheltenham cyclist Anthony Hoyte spent 10 hours cycling the streets of the city to "draw" the giant festive artwork.

Rather overcast down here today. No white stuff, thank goodness!

Wind really rising oop 'ere, fells almost invisible, rain in the wind, not too cold, but wind direction gradually swinging north/west and north, which bodes little good from previous experience of such movements. Hey ho!

Supposedly 12C here, perhaps warm enough for neighbours to spill outdoors during our drop-in for a mince pie and a mug of mulled wine afternoon.
If the 'lawn' (standard new development issue) gets churned up it's no big deal, as the contractors are due to start work constructing the new garden on 8 January.
No big deal missing King's live this year either: we went to the Minster's offering (repeated at 4 today) on Friday night instead.

Another overcast day, with a bit of a wind on this Christmas Day!

Dry so far here, with increasing winds as forecast, but not enough to prevent me taking a quick six mile cycle trip after downing my pseudo-turkey Xmas lunch. Sadly the drop of Drambuie I'd left from last year had dried up, so it had to be Kirsch, from a 50 years old bottle I brought back from Switzerland back in '67. It tasted slightly odd but OK, and I'm still here (*famous last words!*) so if it wasn't, and you never hear from me again, you'll all know why!!!

Lovely Christmas day most of today here in this bit of the Pennines - clear skies with bright sunshine all morning, and not too cold. Greyed over for a brief drizzly downpour just before 2:00pm, but cleared up soon afterwards. Darkening pleasantly now - but the wind is beginning to pick up.

                            Sums it up exactly.

As the day progressed yesterday, the wind became stronger most certainly! This morning, by complete contrast, sunshine!

Yes - there was rain and heavy winds overnight, but again, today is a lovely, sunny day with clear skies and mild temperature. (Very busy roads all day, too - off to the sales, or just visiting the relatives they didn't see yesterday?)
