Grey, damp(intermittent fine drizzle) and cold, not the best start, but the cloud is now breaking and a scrap of blue sky has appeared so things might improve for/in a while. Anything(just about) that doesn't include actual rain I count a bonus, things are still very wet underfoot and that limits both garden activity and also germination success(exacerbated by the continued low temperatures) for the peas and broad beans I want to get in.

Suuny start, though clouding up now.
Phone app says 12C, real feel 14C.
But it certainly feels hotter than that out front (full light/sun) and colder out back (still in shade, though washing out on the airer doing nicely).
23.5C in middle-floor living room, with (front) windows open.
        Everyone walking past very cheery.

Well, you know it's a beautiful Spring day here because .............violent roars / droves of motor-bikers cavalcade through this quiet market town every fifteen minutes and sweep on up to the wild moors above to thunder the lives out of walkers, cyclists and wildlife.

It was supposed to be sunny all day today but at some point during the morning that was changed to sunny intervals, although the Beeb (reporting from the west cf Met from the east) has it cloudy all day. Both agree on staying dry though.

I might even head up to the Heffalump and Castle this afternoon, having just read in Southwark Council's spring samizdat that a new heritage centre with 20,000 new books in is in the immediate offing for opening. The item shows "artist's impressions", ahem, but should the visit prove premature, the 12 mile ride in total should be worth it in today's ideal conditions.

My local surgery was heavily featured in yesterday's Covid vaccine feature on lunchtime news on Radio 4 - I felt so proud!

A grey morning has given way to a sunny afternoon and there is a feeling of some warmth in the sun, but cool out of it. A typical very early spring day.

Well I made the journey - the precinct, just off the Elephant & Castle, is still under construction, as I thought it might be, with large posters advertising the forthcoming changes, albeit in vague terms: "social housing", "community participation", "improved retail facilities" etc etc. On return I actually checked the west-facing side of our flats to see if the sun was strong enough to allow for an hour's worth of sunbathing. There was a bit too much of a chilling breeze for that, however.

I think it will be uninspiring today.

A hole has developed in the high pressure system which has been giving us a few days of reasonable weather, so that it is slowly deflating, like a leaky balloon, and our barometers are slowly moving backwards - all (sadly) making way for an Atlantic frontal system, associated with a deep low to be centred off Iceland, to swing across the country with its rain, strong winds and lowering temperatures on Thursday and Friday.

All, however, is expected to recover later next week, they tell us.

I omitted to wish all and sundry a Happy Spring Solstice yesterday - which I am now rectifying... and putting right.

By the way, did anyone else notice that neither team on last night's University Challenge knew that the opposite term for veering is backing? I was shocked by that.
