I've found that I've got used to the cold as well. I never wear gloves - impossible to blow one's nose while wearing them - and find pockets warmer anyway.
The forecast rain has turned into another dumping of snow up here this evening which certainly wasn't forecast. Had enough of it now. Look back with wistful nostalgia at that week in mid-June when temp got up to 35 degrees."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

Now you see it, now you don't. Couldn't sleep last night so was aware that it was snowing quite heavily from about midnight on - not forecast as such. At 1-30 am there was enough lying for the boys 2 doors down to have a snowball fight, which I became aware of due to the sound of snowballs hitting sheds and windows(typical narrow terrace gardens have limited potential to contain such happy games....). Gradually slowed and at around 3-30am it stopped; at 8-30 when I woke there was hardly a sign it had ever been, the sun was shining and the temperature was well on the plus side of zero although the breeze was spiteful.

There's a lovely quote from the jazz singer Norma Winstone in an interview, where Geoffrey Smith (iirc) mentions the fact that Norma often creates song lyrics containing a strong weather element, eg "Manhattan in the Rain", and she replies that a newspaper article written about her had the heading "Propping up the Isobars"!

Horrendous day here. Heavy rain yesterday evening then turned to snow and then froze catching everyone unawares leaving pavements and roads in a lethal state.
I was fine in my trusty wellies which have terrific grip but I can imagine there being some broken bones and ruined Christmases today!"The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink
