Strange weather here today - lots of cloud about, as expected with frontal systems not far away - including that rare and only recently named type, Asperitas; but the wind has almost dropped out, for reasons not apparent to me. It feels a lot colder than the 11 C on the thermometer, and it seems the effect of well above late February temps expected early next week may be spoiled by strong winds.

Well, today has turned into total chilly filth - wild winds, great flurries of thick, drenching rain, low visibility, and pretty well empty streets.

Windy, dry, might see some sun if we're lucky. All good for getting shopping done, a bit of garden therapy, and drying some of the excess water up. Which reminds me I need to fix the rotary drier situation - I now have two ground spikes that list so badly that they greatly limit how much I can hang on the line. One is a spiral spike screwed into the ground but two previous efforts to remove it for relocation failed to budge it; perhaps now the ground is so sodden I might be more successful. The other, done during the summer, should have been a more permanent arrangement, but has proved not to be so and needs amendment. This is where the combination of living alone and lockdown really hits, since this sort of grunt work is just about beyond me.

Non-stop westerly battering and shoaling it down with rain.
What have we done to deserve this winter? First a bitter, Siberian three weeks, then this.
Smiling BBC weather-people describe it as 'milder' - well, up here, wild SW winds, in Feb, with fierce rain in it is erm........a good deal less than mild, I can assure you.
And then, footie commentators, down on south coast, describe the weather there as 'Spring-like........'!!!

Well it has been very mild around these parts today, with thin high cloud veils not dampening the feeling of the sun's warmth. I took advantage of it with my first longish bike ride this afternoon - originally intending an 8-mile journey but deciding on the spot to extend the trip right up to Deptford Creek, having experienced continuous stop/go on the Ravensbourne River View Pathway, with groups of people every 20 metres along a stretch where before all this one would be surprised to encounter more than about a dozen the entire 7 mile route. That made the entire journey about 13 miles. My mate, who has declined all attempts to lure him out to join me on this delightful round trip - he lives in Camberwell - has probably now missed the boat on this one, as I can't see this Covid-induced enthusiasm for replacing Oxford Street with our erstwhile long-ignored public parks and brown site byways letting up once lockdown finishes. Returning from Deptford by way of the usual places - New Cross, Peckham, East Dulwich, Dulwich Village - confirms the terrible onslaught on some of the big local shopping centres - Peckham being just one long high street of shuttered premises, though there would seem to have been a large number of informal selling opportunities to partly make up for this - and I'm not talking drugs pushers, but market stalls, which seem to be permitted. As for me, I'm going to have to get myself back into training, to judge by my having to walk the final uphill to home.

SA, not mild at all yesterday, down here! Looks like it’s going to be a good day today.

Very strange light in the sky....could it be....could it be...?
...............is this what in other climes I have heard it called 'Spring'?

And up here, that means cohorts of motor bikes making it up to the wide open moors roads. Noise. pollution, dangers to cyclists and walkers.

Stingers, DracoM, theyre the solution, in numbers wielded by unhappy residents. Maybe they can be obtained from Amazon?

Down here, not quite as mild as yesterday - down a degree - but I was able to get some washing damp dry on the line, saving power and a bit of ironing.

Two Sundays that could hardly have been more different. Last week double digit negative temperatures, snow overtopping my boots, outdoor clothes resembling Michelin man but still getting cold. Today double digit positive temperatures, eating lunch outside in 'indoor' clothes, and needing to shed a layer when doing the gardening. The only common feature was sun and no rain.

I think an uninspiring day today, is in store.

Following a not good weather wet weekend it is a lovely morning here - sun shining, blue sky, birds singing, 9C at 9am - a ‘good to be alive’ day and a promise of spring.

Proper chucking it down on the Metrollopes today - not at all forecast until the ‘forecasters’ looked out of the window and saw what was happening...
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
