What a horrible day today is! I hate it when the air temperature is cold enough for it to be snowing rather than raining, as a consequence of melting as precipitation descends through a layer warmer than at ground level - which it was, almost, here at midday (3 degrees C). And we have to endure another 36 hours of this, in the SE.

Winds are set to shift around into a more northerly direction from Wednesday, which means it still remains on the cold side, but will at least be mostly dry, with cloud breaks.
They get deconsecrated don't they? In this case it was just the building that was got rid of as the name and congregation was joined with a nearby older church.
Today has seen more many sunny spells than showers which has helped to offset the fact that it is perishing cold - cold wind and a lot of it. Tomorrow sees the wind becoming more easterly - never a good thing here - and the chance of any sun looking remote, in which case exercise will be brief and with gritted teeth.

As in the warning: winter is coming, grit your teeth!

Bright but cold today strolled out to village shop for papers and a bag of spuds - good local ones with the muck still on them! Overall a good day to take advantage of the sunshine from within!

Incisive easterly here, clear p.m. skies, but clouds gathering over sunset. Might be another treacherous pavement icer tonight.

Clouded over a bit now but very sunny for most my walk, not too cold except when exposed to a bitter wind from the east.

Most unpleasant again today down yurr. The problem with rain rather than snow falling at just above freezing point is that on a bike, where in any case you need to don gloves at such temperatures, snow falling just falls off hands and other clothing, whereas rain seeps through, so that by the time I got back from the shops my hands were in agony the moment I re-entered my warm flat... and I now have gloves that need drying out!

The, er. good news is that, all being well, according to the official forecasts we have just 10 more days left of sub-normal temperatures, after which time they are expected to recover to normal and even somewhat higher than normal. 8 or 9 Celsius is going to feel like spring has arrived!

Just back from bike ride into town. I didn't go in any but quite a lot of "essential" shops were still trading. "Not too cold" wouldn't describe the experience. My woollen hat did not prove totally fit for purpose against that icy wind.

Played tennis yesterday evening, also in an icy wind but perfectly playable. Courts were full just before impending shutdown. Probably last foursome till spring, if Gove is to be believed. Consensus was that outdoor distanced tennis was as risk-free as anything.

Maybe a tennis twosome might fall this side of the lockdown restrictions?

Not been as bad as it could have been. The wind wasn't as strong as earlier forecast and the showers were pretty infrequent and shortlived; there were even a few fleeting glimpses of the sun. It was cold and I felt for the chaps who spent the day up and down the telegraph poles in my road manipulating various bits of wire.

Clear skies, wonderful stars, black ice already forming on pavements.

Snow and sleet up here. Damp, penetrating cold and a NE 'breeze'.
