Not so murky today, but neither did we get the burst of sunshine of previous days, and cooler. It was dry though and I was able to get out for some useful gardening, accompanied for a while by a sizeable company of longtailed tits - not the most restful birds and their calls were particularly loud and shrill, but very pretty and fun to watch. When they moved on a robin loitered in the background with its rather wistful burbling, keeping an eye out for goodies turned up by my activities.

Huge masses of black cloud here this afternoon, but only a little rain. The prevailing gloom meant that one needed the lights on at around 2.30. Very little wind again and not particularly cold out of doors but feels chillier indoors."The sound is the handwriting of the conductor" - Bernard Haitink

It got more and more wet through the morning and then after an almighty cloudburst suddenly cleared to bright sun and blue sky. I've taken the chance to put out some heavy washing (towels etc) well pegged down as the wind is still strong, and it's drying well. I also spent a short while in the garden, moving pots around - summer plants to winter quarters, and the troughs of spring bulbs up to the patio for the winter. Over the next few days, weather permitting I'll get them cleaned of dead leaves etc and topped up with new compost, and see if there will be space to put in some violas without damaging the bulbs - I love their cheery little faces and they brighten the space up while the bulbs are coming through. Some of them have a good scent as well which is noticeable on my sheltered patio and adds to that of the sarcococca and viburnum - flowers and scent are extra welcome in winter.

I think that Lockdown 1 was made easier by the good weather and being able to be in the garden - Lockdown 2 has a different kind of weather, maybe making it more bearable because nothing is missed by not going out - today grey, wet and not very light - then what do you expect in mid November?

One of the blackest clouds I've ever seen has now spread across, bringing heavy rain and premature darkness, but not, surprisingly, any thunder. That means missing out on my usual Sunday afternooner, though I might get out later, once its dark and the convection generating these pesky showers is out of the way. In the meantime Jazz Record Requests is on the wireless, and, speaking of Old and New, I am enjoying one of those virtual walkabouts kind persons like to post on youtube - in this case Deptford High Street in ten minutes!
