Well I have to admit that there was not nearly as much wind and rain on that cold front as I'd anticipated. It started here around 11 am - I know that because I had some rose dead-heading to do before my elevenses, and finished the job quickly in fear of a soaking, since in the unseasonable warmth I was not wearing weather proofing - and was through by 2pm, with a switch in wind direction from southerly to west-south-westerly, and drop in temperature to 13 C., or 55 F in old money.
Tomorrow looks likely to be pretty wet again at various times right across the UK, this time courtesy a more complex arrangement of fronts associated with the last Atlantic depression of this family of lows before high pressure slowly builds in from the south west from Tuesday. Gales can be expected early tomorrow across Wales, the Midlands and SE in advance of the cold front, to be followed by a moderating showery westerly, and temperatures dropping to what one would expect in early November (11 C max down here) and cold nights as the high approaches closer, probably bringing our first widespread night frosts. At the moment this looks likely to be a short settled interval before the Atlantic jet resumes - all uncharacteristically normal for the time of year!
