    Yes!

There used to be a shop outside Shrewsbury which offered 24 hour mattresses. Always made us chuckle when we drove past it. We imagined some sort of radio controlled mattress setting off at 3.30am if we phoned for one at 2 in the morning.

For some reason my first thought on reading that was - an alternative to the afternoon hotel room - my useful and/or socially acceptable brain takes a while to get going in the morning...
Of course these days ordering and receiving a mattress within a 24 hour span wouldn't be considered out of the ordinary.

I thought a '24-hour mattress' was an obliging person of the opposite sex whose services could be hired from, say, 2200 on Monday to 2159 on Tuesday?

BIG temp drop here as NE wind searches out the will to live.

As with last month we're still trapped in the bubble of hot air, just for today here. Some rain at 6 am from the still lingering elevated convective cloud, which looks as if heralding thunder, though it probably won't be as the heat needed is now draining away. Nevertheless some parts of London experienced overnight temps of 20 C, and I'm wondering if this marks a September record.

Someone living in the Sussex Weald area has posted some nice timelapse of this summer's thunderstorms on UKweatherworld. Most of the storms are old textbook surface convection-based types grown from showery cumulus, rather than the elevated kind associated with organised upper troughs that at its best produces the strobe lightning which has become more of a feature in recent years here, although there is about half a minute of what looks likely to be the latter beginning at 3 minutes in. You can generally tell by comparing the ragged appearance of the base in many surfaced-based storms with the banded patterns characterising the high-based types. Oh, and if you prefer not to be entertained by the accompanying New Age soundtrack, turn the volume right down!

Hi there and welcome to my channel. As a storm chaser and severe weather photographer, I love to timelapse the growth and development of storms, convection a...

                Enjoy!

Hazy, sunny sky and warm. Was windy when I went out for a walk, now it's gustier.

Rather a NAF day here - the lack of sun meant it never fulfilled its promise of warmth and in fact became distinctly chilly in the afternoon with that aforementioned NE airflow.

Certainly quite warm yesterday, I think similar for today.

Cloudless horizon to horizon up here.

Here too, but significantly colder than it was on Tuesday.
Yesterday was pretty dreary (and cold) here.

                            PS: It didn't last.

Clouded over now (10:20) as I've just hung the washing out.

A lot cooler today following the passage of a cold front overnight down here, but the sun's breaking through nicely now.

The big shock to the system is expected in a week's time when, if the forecasters are correct, temperatures are expected to dip to those more normally expected halfway through October: maxes of 12 or 13 C. So I'm making tomorrow my last purchasing day for salady things - after that it's a return to cooking.

Big day today, as I am due to transfer from Windows 7 (or the no man's land I've been in since it demised back in May) to Windows 10, so there won't be as much of me on here as usual! I'm not looking forward to it at all, tbh.

If a technoprat like me can cope with Windows 10, I'm sure you'll have no problems!
