I was once watching an intense thunderstorm from the front porch when lightning struck the metal bus stop, not 10 metres in front of me. There was a resounding clang which transformed into a loud ascending sound like strong material being ripped apart.

Just now I am back from a 5 mile circular walk, taking in a number of parks and woodland areas in the vicinity. On coming through Crystal Palace Park I became aware of a strange scraping sensation on my left elbow, and turned my head around to find a wasp there having a little nibble, presumably feasting on my salt! I brushed it away and it immediately returned to settle on my bottom lip - so he or she (she, I would think) was definitely after any remnants from the fresh raspberries I had had for my lunch! Wasps seem to be more active this year than for many years, and are not concerned about maintaining social distance! Really one has to be careful: had my mouth been open - which was quite possible as I was panting my way up the steps there - I could have swallowed the bloody thing!

Weatherwise it now looks as if we are in for fairly widespread heavy rain from a little occlusion which is to cross Wales and England tomorrow - putting the kybosh on the ride I had been hoping to do. Tuesday and Wednesday are still scheduled for rain and strong winds in most places, with another lot expected on Friday from a third low due to cross the centre of the country slowly before ending up in the southern North Sea, with winds swinging around to the north-northwest. Countryfile on BBC 1 tonight will deliver the usual weekly forecast towards the end of the programme. With daytime temperatures forecast to fall to early October values, the shock to the system will be palpable!

I once saw a car aerial struck by lightning. It flashed bright green, then fell off! The car was empty at the time.

          .......before or...after the lightning strike?

Here it has been whacking it down on and off all day.

Ah, I see you live in Launceston, Cornwall? Had a bad experience there, we visited the old jail there! Hmmm...

Not too bad yesterday, I think today, the same.

We appear to be having a thunderstorm bearing directly down upon us, if the current route is maintained, and if the cell in question doesn't exhaust all its energies - a strong possibility with storms of this kind, which originate from showers embedded in cold air. Either way it's gonna rain, so I was right in calculating today would not be a good one for a cycle ride.

                  I’ll pass!

Mind you I don’t think we’ll miss the heavy weather on its way to us overnight.

Well, at least it won't be for 40 days and 40 nights. Hallelujah!

Wind dropped enough and sun still out, so in the garden with a bottle of wine and The Times crossword while the chicken is roasting in its bag (see Pedants' Paradise!).

Ex thunderstorm duly arrived, with an hour of the first proper rainfall we've had her for some time. All the other thunderstorms, exes and otherwise, have managed to pass us by. The grass will now be a little greener on this side of the fence.

Unpleasant already and only going to get worse - the rain may ease off later but the wind will be really getting into its stride by then. There is a buzzard quartering the sky with scarcely a wing flap in the space between the fretting trees below and the frantically scudding clouds above.
This sort of weather isn't good news for already low visitor numbers at work and brings its own problems to an old building. An added negative is that contractors had just finally got back on site to start prepping outside windows ready for painting and were due to be on the cherry pickers to get at the high level ones this week...
