Eagerly tune in to Test Match this a.m. - covers on, looks dire for the rest of the day.
    Drat.
HERE, in NW, cloudless as far as the eye can see east and west over fells, and out towards Morecambe Bay, warm, pleasant breeze..........
This Test v Pakistan at the Aegeas has been a disaster, wrecked by weather - in the 'sunny south'.
    Ahem.

All the more ludicrous that so much time was lost yesterday for "bad light". The match seems destined for a fizzled-out draw.

A cool grey morning with the overnight mist not in any hurry to leave completely. The clamminess changed to lightest mizzle by the time I went to town which got gradually more purposeful. Fortunately by the time it was trying out light drizzle for size I was almost home, and my jacket had kept the damp off my shoulders. There are rain clouds on the weather map but given the direction of the wind in relation to where they are I doubt we'll see rain. The current conditions are giving the plants a breather even if their lack of water isn't being solved.

Stormy indeed! Thunder, lightening and lots of rain here.

Overcast all day and with very high humidity felt uncomfortable. The afternoon has had a constant grumble soundtrack and part of the sky did get darker for a while, but so far no action, and currently the sky is brightening. A town on the coast less than 25 miles as the crow flies has been hit by torrential rain and flooding - localised downpours indeed - and a colleague who lives there was wondering what she would find when she returned home after work today .

Yes, this seems to be a feature of the present weather situation: yesterday, central London had torrential rain, and my upstairs neighbours returned from a very perilous journey into Kent on their motorbike asking me how come it was bone dry here, given that they had just ridden through heavy rain in Bromley, which is only 5 miles away! This afternoon I ignored the look of the sky before taking to a walk of an hour's duration, during which it started to rain, and at one point thunder rippled through the sky to the south-east; I figured that getting myself soaked through would probably be a quite pleasurable experience, given just how warm and oppressive it has been feeling all day here.

Going very dark here and raining. However, Lightningmaps.org is currently showing storms well to the east of here, around the Lincoln/Newark area.

No rain here all day but several email alerts from Scotrail about flooded lines. Railway only half a mile away.

Very intense surface-based storm has built up very rapldly and has been giving near-continuous lightning between Willesden and Kentish Town for the past half hour - 12 miles to my north - and now Bermondsey. Nevertheless the edge of the massive cumulonimbus forming the cell is right over us here, and looking very dramatic. It can't seem to make up its mind which direction to take in the very still surface air!

Remarkably still evening here. Met Office has our local wind speed at 1 mph. Feels like nought.

A mixed bag today, I think.

Currently 25°C, bright sunshine and fluffy cumulus. The wind direction (currently S) seems to change constantly these days.

Thundery showers forecast for this afternoon but currently dry following overnight rain with zero wind. One of those late summer days that feels like autumn has already set in.
