We've had 5.7 mm of rain already today, which is some sort of deluge for these parts!

That is quite impressive I agree for the 'driest region of the country'.
It chucked down here in the early hours, enough to wake me at about 3am. For some reason I hadn't closed the window so I was disturbed by the noise - which is the main reason I close the window at night as it doesn't take much noise to wake me, and vehicles crunching over the shingle of the unmade road, especially when there isn't blanket background noise to dampen it, is enough to disturb. There are several shift workers living along the road and the milkman goes by at about 1-30 or 2 am, used to be twice a week but now seems to be 3, presumably as more folk have discovered the service and the chance to get bread etc as well as milk.

Where a cousin of mine, who used to have a small holding, had swallows that used to nest in one of her out buildings every year.

Another warm day today.

....used have a kiln on Ilkley Moor surrounded by a shed....sometimes had to postpone firings to wait for fledglings to depart....open heard one Curlew and only a few Oyster Catchers....

Years ago my daughter had her horse at a livery yard that had converted two very old barns to stables, and each year many swallows would return to nest. The horses mostly got used to the comings and goings of the birds as did the birds to the human activity, but it did mean extra grooming to get the bird poops off the horses backs. Good thing they are small birds and their diet is pretty dry...

Dry here, but cloudy and remarkably dark - very thick cloud layerings - this for the third day in a row. Usually at this time of year I'm not having to draw the curtain here to shield the screen from overwhelming light levels from outside.

Much of the same tomorrow - but dry up north - then it should warm up for Friday, apart from Scotland.

Grey but bright and actually rather pleasant for a friendly game of doubles tennis earlier this evening.
