Certainly a change, yesterday and today. More of the same today, I think.

I wish! The wind continues gusting into mid to high 30s mph and is turning cooler. The forecast mentions blustery showers possibly thunder, but the sky looks unpromising on that front as yet, and in any case given the wind the effect of any rain would be limited to laying the dust for a while.

Another wild, WILD day up here with billows of rain every so often. Westerly, so not too cold, but why they heck all this and so suddenly after days of calm...? And is it going to go on like this? Or is this the 'new normal'?
          Plants taking a real hammering.

Now a totally unforecast very sharp shower, lasted two minutes and the sun's out again! Most odd.

The wind, though, is very strong and unpleasant, as it was yesterday and it seems worse with the trees being in full leaf.

Deep low, not in winter terms but for May, coming in in the wake of a lot of pent-up atmospheric energy, which would in the past have been easing up by this stage in the year, while that big blocking high pressure system sat on top of us. Yep, this, with climate change, is probably the "new normal", according to a number of qualified and retired meteorologists on the Ukweatherworld site I check out every day for observations and comment.

Useful to know: and for me at least, it will change plantings and where in the garden.

So much is coming into bloom right now that, if this is the pattern for future years, other strategies might well have to be employed to maximise survival of some plants.

                Hmm - food for thought.

Not a single drop of rain here for weeks. Most unusual fo April/May. Next thing we know there'll be a hosepipe ban...and the water-butts are empty. I hope the very act of posting this will cause an immediate cloudburst.

The cyclonic system that SA mentions is passing well North of us, and the High pressure system to the South is in charge. So it's windy right now, but there's hardly any cloud cover.

Indeed - the thundery showers developed once past your area - expect we'll be getting dramatic descriptions of two lively storm systems that passed BBM's nick of the woods around lunchtime.

Had to laugh at the updated forecast - "evening showers easing". As far as I can see the only way there'll be any of those is if the two tiny blobs out in the North Sea manage to travel very fast and with pinpoint accuracy!

Fooled by the cool wind I was forgetting any rain would be coming from inland(rather than the North Sea), so rather surprised by a sudden massing of dark grey cloud early evening. We had a handful of fat drops, many of which didn't even reach the ground, and that was it. No rain for the foreseeable according to the Met office. It's getting rather worrying as an attempt to plant a couple of items last night showed dry soil down to at least 5". By looking very hard it was possible to discern the merest hint of slightly darker colour at about 3"... I have no idea how the other(established) plants in the border are surviving, but at that rate they won't for much longer!

Yep - the usual reversion to stable nor-westerlies with inversion cap and resulting stratocumulus infill. But enough warmth and sunny periods to dry my "online" washing.

Didn't even think of putting washing out. Even if it hadn't been heavy items being cleaned before packing away for the summer(!) trying to keep the pegs and therefore clothes attached to the line seemed too much of an ask.
