    There was mention of rain, but the forecast likelihood has now been reduced, and certainly the only likely clouds are belting across at height and speed. The weather map shows quite a few blue patches, but that patchiness means the chances of missing them are high. I've put out some washing and will shortly go and do some shopping - sans waterproof - to try and provoke precipitation...I am not hopeful, and am resigned to another evening watering round.

        What a difference 100 miles makes! Here it was virtually unbroken sunshine from dawn to dusk, with just a few whisps of cirrus around supper time.

        Today, wall-to-wall sunshine once more, with very deep shadows like you get in hotter climes, and the midday temperature reaching 19.5 C - so, given clear skies all the way and lighter winds, I would think yesterday's 22 C will easily be broken.

          The sun got out properly just after lunch and the temperature shot up - 26 on my 'shade' thermometer - so it was a warm walk to the shops. New growth on the perennials in the borders is looking distinctly droopy; it will perk up overnight but then flop again unless we get some decent sustained rain. The roses are coming out in a rush, with intense colours and perfumes, but the combination of sun and breeze is making them go over rather quickly.

            Before coming to live in London, from personal experience roses would not be expected to bloom until June. But here in London they invariably do so a month earlier; and this year some of our roses started to exhibit buds even before the end of April!

              Fells virtually invisible in rain/fog/dreich. NOT warm, whatever the BBC may say! 10C at the mo.
              BUT
              we're safe, we live in fantastic countryside. So..............!!

                According to the BBC, the temperature today reached 26 degs C in central London, and 25 C wherever the recording station is, here in SE19. I was still out sunbathing at 6.30, which is unprecedented this early in the season. My own north wall sited thermometer gave me a max of 23 C, but surrounded by trees and large shrubs, we are in a relatively sheltered position here. But still, these readings are a couple of degrees higher than was forecast, so if the 27 C predicted in parts of central London tomorrow are again exceeded, this could give a 28 C or 29 C somewhere, which although not quite record-breaking would be pretty hot for May.

                  Wow! Woke to totally cloudless skies and perfect sun. After the last two days.................? Amazing.

                    Too hot! The shade thermometer is up to 30 now( midday), and I cut short my shopping trip this morning as I couldn't face carrying everything back that I'd originally intended getting.

                      Perfect clear blue skies here in North London, was already very warm on my morning walk at 9. Don’t fancy the inevitable crowds out later so will watch the rest of it largely indoors, not even in the garden, given the restless neighbours, one side effect of the Ongoing I could live without. But this weather is very heartening indeed and long may it continue.

                        Yes, and as I live in a fine NW landscape, we have already had HORDES of loud, loud, polluting bikers this a.m. which presages a mighty tourist-driven w/end...........oh dear.....

                          Same temp - 23C - in garden and living room at this moment.

                            Apparently the first ever footage of a motor cyclist being caught by a police "stinger" is to be broadcast on one of those Police-Action-Macburger-in layby programmes next week.

                            <hint>

                              Round here the police have given motorbike nutters carte-blanche. so they gleefully accept and can be heard every evening from miles away screaming through the gears at what must be double or more the national speed limit. Naturally the police are very much still on the case with vicious inconsiderate car driving louts who dare to marginally exceed the 30mph limit in such dangerous spots as the rural approaches to quiet country villages.

                                Easier to stop the drivers, I expect. Hence my stinger suggestion.
