Morning boat cancelled - wind got up well before dawn + some very heavy showers tho wind now in 'wrong' direction to wash off the ablutions of one of our 'protected' herring gulls that blew onto my 2nd floor window as the bird was using the updraft to gain height.

BBC Weather estimates 62mph wind in Truro now, but I can only read 25-30mph. I suppose they could mean possible gusts. Time to go shopping...!

wind + rain now ceased - the rays of the low sun illuminate the green fields under a slate blue sky - to the east a fleetingly beautiful view of small emerald green fields on the slopes of the outriders of the central hills - the gulls obviously think it is over as they are now flying though it won't be long before the sun sets behind Peel Hill

It's really hotting up here in Edinburgh. Horizontal rain and a wind that would cut you in half! As Mrs. PG would say, 'Its no' a day for a tree to be out!'

                  << wind + rain now ceased >>

                  Blimey, lucky you!
                  Absolutely roaring and drenching here!

The main rain band with accompanying gales expected to arrive around 9pm, with a repeat performance, albeit with stronger winds for this region tomorrow. Just when I'm booked for a gig across Town, which means I'll be having to check TfL travel for potential problems all day, in case of needing to make detours. Things should start to quieten down on Friday, followed - at last! - by a high pressure ridge crossing the country over the weekend.

Was about to head into town (Soho) as I've not been out since Friday, but beaten back by the elements. Part of my journey would have been on my bicycle, but as I'm also just fixed after being knocked off it by a hooligan moped rider before Christmas (six stitches to my bonce and an awful lot of blood due to a thinner I'm on) I was wearing of the buffeting winds.

London never gets the weather too bad, but it wasn't worth taking the chance.

You were very wise, Stephen; it was blowing up to gale force out there earlier, with torrential rain around 9 o'clock as the cold front passed across. Still raining now. London's roads are full of potholes lately, and it's very difficult to see them at night with the latest dimmer street lighting - I went down a street this afternoon with potholes at regular intervals just where one needs to go to avoid careless drivers moving out from parking positions while not being hit by passing traffic - most of them had faded white paint circles around them, a good indication of how long since they had been checked for repair!

Certainly a storm last night, here! I reckon the winds were very strong as a weeping willow tree, we have, was going right over! 80 mph?!?!?

I've decided to give my gig a miss tonight - no intention of going out in what is expected to get even worse than at present, and stilll going by midnight: no conditions for cycling or even facing that SW gale on foot for the mile and a half home from Forest Hill.

The wind is really winding itself up now, but on the plus side seems set to move through faster than originally forecast so perhaps I might get some sleep after all. High winds have always made me jumpy, and now that I'm older and living alone the worry of dealing with possible damage adds to that.

Very bad last night. Worse than the previous one?
