The odd thing is it was gone when I checked, after posting that message. Spirited away, sort of, there being no sound of thumping the thing up the steps on a porter's trolley vibrating through the entire building. Actually, I think the delivery man probably took it back to the depot on instructions.

Anyway, the temperature here didn't fall below 10 C last night, and 12 C in other parts of London - which is the average minimum for July and August , and I shall have to check if it's my highest recorded minimum for January, though I understand not for the country as a whole. Tonight looks like being a repeat.

Gloomy and overcast a few miles south in this bit of the Pennines - but only very light rain this morning, and mild temperatures all day.
