Got a couple of degrees above freezing late morning through lunchtime, and it was actually very pleasant out doing my various errands in town. The car did eventually defrost but the door locks had one of their chilly tantrums so needed a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to actually open. Now the sun is getting lower the temperature is rapidly descending too.

Now a lovely sunset sky - almost salmon pink and grey stripes. Now 15 minutes later a wonderful red glow from beneath.

Idyllic winter day here - like the past several days it's sunny and cloudless, but this time without a chill wind.

Significant temperature rise - damp, westerlies. Big change from the raw easterlies we've had here for the last don't know how many days.

No frost to wake up to , and a reasonably bright morning. A niggly breeze and the damp meant that it felt much colder than it actually was, but it got milder after midday. The volunteer gardening tomorrow may be reduced to a bit of pottering and planning, and gathering some foliage and twigs for decorations, if the forecast frost happens. No matter, pottering is pleasant, as is a change of scenery, and the opportunity to watch the wildlife.

An exact description of the day's weather here in this bit of the Pennines, too.

I left for a bike ride up the Ravensbourne river walk at around 2.30 this afternoon, but by the time I reached Ladywell Park, less than an hour later, the weakened effect of what had been warm sunshine was already noticeable on my painful finger tips, forcing me to don the gloves I'd remembered to bring along. Most trees are now bare, apart, mainly, from oaks, which seem to retain theior foliage the longest of the native varieties. A few people were out, some exercising their dogs, a few motorised wheelchair users too. It was unexpected to find the little hut cafeteria serving teas and snacks was open, with a few well-wrapped visitors occupying the dozen or so tables set outside. I'm nowadays finding quite a lot of trycyclists (sp?) with front extensions bearing a transparent plastic-covered compartment for conveyancing as many as 4 small children. Quite an effort to pedal-power, I would have thought!

Not a cloud to be seen all day! Tomorrow transitions to windier, milder but more changeable conditions.

Another NAF(not as forecast) day, and all the better for it. A sharp overnight frost but not the threatened fog, and a calm sunny day made my volunteer garden pottering a pleasure so long as a spot in the sun was chosen!

Bitter, bitter westerly with rain, freezing edge and nastiness in its heart up here.
My forecast calls it 'moderate breeze'........

Blimey - can't wait for the snow storm being predicted for Election day next week up here.
