A brief bit of beauty early in the day when a light drizzle drifted across the rising sun so that the air sparkled like golden tinsel, and the dark clouds to the west displayed a complete rainbow. The morning was dull and cold after that but the sun did made an appearance in the afternoon and lit up the copper beech trees which have gone into their fiery stage before finally dropping. It was freezing overnight but slightly less cold than originally forecast during the day, and once again the odd situation of the direction of the wind producing temperatures that don't correspond. Cold, wet and rather windy overnight apparently and Saturday not inviting, however other parts of the country are having it much worse so I'm not going to grumble.

Much colder today than we have been used to so far in the balmy south. Frost just a few streets north of my house, but not here yet. Maybe tonight, so I will bring in the remaining avocado plants.

A friend north of here, says the temperature reached 1° earlier today after 'proper' snow. We've already had some snow on the Ochils. Oo-er missus!

Well today is definitely NAF(not as forecast) It was due to be pretty yuk, but in fact is quiet, sunny, and not feeling especially cold, so I think it would be an idea to get out into the garden for a while and make a start on dealing with the chunks of beech hedge and (next door's) buddleia. I don't bother with bonfires now so need to get such rubbish in bags to take to the green waste skip at the tip.

Temperatures just dropped enough for an air frost here, with fern-like patterns coating all the parked cars in our street as I made my way to the local Sainsburys, gloves on and clad in quilt coat and bobble hat. The fine view north to Canary Wharf from the Upper Norwood shops was magical at 9.30, with the tops of the towers and The Shard just poking up out of a grey mist shrouding the centre of the Metropolis.

A noticeable frost but bright sun soon dealt with it, and a pleasant morning was spent in the garden. A bit of light rain at lunchtime and the clouds are now massing so there might be some more to come. Monday isn't looking too good but as the past few days have shown that can change quite significantly overnight.

Sunny, occasional slabs of cloud, BUT temp at or below freezing mid-afternoon.

Lovely day down here, but with little wind, and sun not strong enough to dry my washing on the line. (online washing.com!) And a squirrel had dropped messages down one of the bed sheets as it ran along the line - just to get its own back for something I hadn't done!
