We had a frosty clear sunny morning, but by 1 it had clouded over and then started raining...

Other way round here! Murky start and a nasty raw damp cold, no rain thankfully as this is volunteer gardening day, but certainly needed to keep moving. At lunchtime the sun came out and lit up the bright leaves against blue sky, and stayed for the afternoon.

Were the temperature to drop a couple more degrees you might find blobs of snow making it through the rain to ground level, especially when the rain is heavy; but since the air behind the rain belt is milder than in advance, that is unlikely, for the time being at any rate.

Not a nice day today. The rain was heavy and took longer to clear than expected, and when it did clear about lunchtime the temperature dropped noticeably, which seemed odd considering the wind had gone round to various southerly directions. Frost is forecast for tonight - oh joy. Fortunately, although I have to go in to work for a meeting tomorrow morning it isn't first thing so I'll have time to clear the car if necessary. Being shaded by the houses opposite is good in summer, not so much when frost appears.

Sheffield is flooded, according to a late announcement on CH4 news just now, and the situation is not likely to improve soon. That Amber Warning turned out correct.

The sun never got up, the day never arrived, the taxi never came .... so I gave up & stayed home... chicken soup, focaccia, dozed off with The Cat.....
Wet leaves in skeins, drifts and mounds.... waterlogged lawns, flooded verges, much mud.... very hungry birds....!

I see my friends up north are having a bad time of it, weather wise. Hope all are safe! I see that some shoppers in Sheffield were stranded!

In the mean time, down south it’s fine today. Yesterday only had drizzle later on on the day.
