We had a great day today, for a change!

And such a change for the first day after the clock changes to be a bright one; it's often very gloomy, just to make you feel even worse!

Bright sunshine all day in this bit of the Pennines - but significantly colder; the Central Heating came on automatically for the first time this "Winter" this morning. Enjoyably cold, though, if you see what I mean: crisp and fresh, staying in the air, rather than seeping into your bones.

Glorious day here as well - wall to wall blue sky and sunshine. Very much cooler - but then although yesterday was very mild it was also grey, damp and generally dispiriting, so I know which I would rather have.
Noticed that I could see twinkling stars when I was locking the door just now so I guess it'll be a chilly night - but again good to see them rather than the murk of the past several days.

Indeed, and the all-day condensation on the insides of all my windows is confirmation of the temperature fall. It's down to 3C now, and could well be our first autumnal frost tonight. I always think of autumn as really getting going when daytime temperatures consistently fail to reach above 15C, and it seems we're now there.

There certainly was a need here this morning for my shopping expedition! And a few showers have been sneaking their way in on the easterly - possibly for reasons of the residual warmth of the waters at the mouth of the Thames Estuary triggering convection. Unusual as the atmospheric pressure being so high and pre-frontal medium-level cloud incursions from that system to the SW would tend to cap cumulus growth below levels needed to produce showers. There could be some convection in that medium-level cloud, judging by its lumpy base, that is aiding that which is coming up from the surface.

( we didn’t actually, we came in from more or less due east, made a 180 degree turn over St Pauls, and landed facing east. There seem to be a lot of tall blocks not far from the flightpath, not so great for yer nervous flyer )
