    .

... well, we're off to Derbyshire for the weekend. The Stockport-Buxton railway line has re-opened ; we are promised "thundery showers - heavy rain - fresh breeze".

I gather there is "Putting on the Ritz" at the Buxton opera house.

I am also packing several Serious Books....

A fairly pleasant day here today. With more rain forecast for tomorrow I'm saving up some choir committee work to be done indoors on my computer for then.

Cloudy/bright here, mid 60s. Edinburgh - Glasgow line flooded, only 1 mile up the road from me but it hasn't rained here.

Mid 20s, windy, continuing dry. It's supposed to rain overnight but the pattern of the past couple of weeks is that it's scattered and local if it happens at all - and my patch ain't seem anything of it. Meanwhile the wind continues to suck the life out of vegetation, including my veggies - pickings have been thin or non-existent as I can't do the amount of watering necessary to achieve anything other than survival. Large quantities of rain falling in a short period of time are not going to do much good as the soil is just too dry to absorb it.
Ah well, what will be etc.

Been very good down these parts today, although I think tomorrow will be different!

Well I've hedged my bets. I got out the full lengths of hose to water the most needy at the bottom of the garden but I haven't watered the tubs by the house. Nor have I cut the grass as the last time I did that before 'heavy rain' nothing happened; in any case it's not the grass that's grown(much of that is brown and crunchy) it's the flowering heads of various weeds.
A festival on the coast has been cancelled due to the threat of high winds and rain - bit difficult for those who travelled up today and arrived to a pleasant summer day with little if any sign even now of bad weather to come.

An earthquake here yesterday, 2.2 on the Richter was recorded - we felt a bit of a noisy bang - thought it was thunder but on reflection thunder doesn’t sound like what we heard - bot no damage.

Heard that announced on the radio this morning. Hope all ok!

Quite a bit of drizzly rain today, which meant going up the A23 today slightly hazardous but manageable. It was my day to go to St Catherine’s Hospice In Crawley. Doing very well my legs are. I have to go to the lymphedema clinic there. Twice a Week! Still seems to be working though.

What a difference a day makes! Gorgeously sunny and warm yesterday (a near-ideal Summer's day in Leeds) - chucking it down non-stop since about 3 o'clock this morning. This has been one of the oddest Summers I can remember.

Ah, but looking back at my diary, I see that August has been the cruellest month quite regularly recently, with mighty rain storms, even monsoon-like. Last night's was so loud on my roof that it woke enough to go around the house checking things were OK. And most of my tallest plants have been flattened overnight as well.

                          Ahem.....UN Climate Change report?
Ahem - Politicians, are you listening to anything but the sound of your own voices??

The raindrops are all joined up, can hardly see out of the window. Windy. and a cool 15°. Railway still flooded and more to come.

Cloughie: Cornish earthquake probably caused by excessive timpani activity at St Endellion last night

And there was a percussion late-nighter to follow which I couldn't attend...
I keep hitting the Escape key, but I'm still here!

There was some rain here between 3am and 4am which did get a chance to benefit the ground as the wind had dropped. The wind has been steadily increasing since and the sun's out so the moisture will disappear quickly. Mid twenties and, despite the wind, sticky feeling. Any further rain will be isolated showers and from the look of the weather map will not be over my area. No rain tomorrow but a lot more wind, so I'll need to water pots before I go to work.
