This morning, the couple from upstairs returned from a week in France, camping in their campervan! I told them I was surprised they hadn't melted.

Sullen, grey, sultry and thick here. Barely a breath of wind.

The actual temperature may have been lower but it wasn't that much more comfortable today and tonight is set to be another sticky restless one.

Thanks SA! Raining this morning. Hoping it will clear up!

Much cooler, and damp. The rain itself could be somewhat hit and miss judging by the weather map, so I'll seize the opportunity to plant out a batch of salad seedlings while it's drizzly rather than chucking it down. Apologies to those for whom this coolth and wetness isn't welcome, but I for one am relieved.

It seems to be slowly petering out here at the time of writing. Either it's 12.59 from local station to Sutton or I cycle the 10 miles, risking it. It would be nice and cool for cycling. Another problem might be quantities of broken glass gathered together by water flowing into drains made invisible by the wet surfaces: it's not easy sitting in a puddle by the roadside getting splashed by passing traffic while changing a tube! If rain returns later I can always take the bike by train, which is permitted any time at weekends. Decisions... decisions...

Only 15° In Falkirk and absolutely piddling down, with a warning of disruption (to what?) due to rain till midday tomorrow.

What made it all so much more intresting than "piddling down" yesterday was the thunder and lightning, and the dramatic purpley-grey skyscapes, like something dreamed up by Dali! They have petered out, too: just "clag" (ragged low stratus) hereabouts today.

Clag is right. Right, so that's summer done?

I do hope so. Bring on the mists and mellow fruitfulness

Perhaps on Svalbard where you seem to be!

Well, started to rain up here at 10 a.m., and it has rained non-stop since then, and the fells here are barely visible in the clag.

From one extreme to the other! A high of 18C today, feeling cooler in the breeze, with assorted precipitation, mostly not proper rain. Sunday looks like a good day to work in the garden - a bit warmer and little chance of rain.

Hardly an extreme, most times you’d be happy with 18! ...and surely a drop of rain is refreshing!

Glass half empty - shame on you, there’s loads of summer left, even if daylight is shrinking.
