Much warmer here, these last two days - almost summer-like - which looks likely to be maintained until Monday, when it's expected to cool off once more.

While the weather remains in such a civilised mood, here is a link to amazing time-lapse footage of storm skies in the south-western states of America that are apparently typical of the type of weather that normally breaks out down there between June and September. The changes and development of the cloud forms, which is extremely complex in scientific terms and beyond my capacity to understand in those terms, is clear enough to follow visually with little need of explanation - a dramatic showcase for nature at its most powerful:

Warning: the sequence has sub-John Adams-type backing music, for anyone who may wish to know!

I can well understand the attraction of that region for storm chasers, much though I would probably be terrified, were I to be among them!

Warm here, but big boisterous westerly, and STILL no rain - for twelve days now! At the height of the growing season.

Not very good at all. But I do hope it won’t be wrt over the bank holiday. Be a shame for holiday makers.

Hope it will be ok today!

Well, as www.yr.no predicted to the minute, at 4 pm a smidge of rain - the first for a fortnight - which then settled in to be something serious.
          At LAST! Plants loving it.

Lovely day here - warm enough to exit in T-shirt without jacket on the bike, so I spent an hour and a bit doing one of the six designated history walks for Clapham Common, looking at late Victorian and Edwardian terraces in an extraordinary range of architectural styles, and eventually managing to find the LCC plaque commemorating Broomwood House, where Wilberforce lived from 1797 to 1807 during the campaign against the slave trade. For a fiver one could buy all six leaflets and do the walkabouts in one's own time, without the official guide and designated time of gathering. My, those Victorian architects could have invented the term "cultural appropriation", the ways they juxtaposed features from whatever ancient culture accorded with their masters' pride in showcasing colonial conquest! One could say that the Victorians had imagination and deployed it in stylistic profusion, or that in running out of ideas after the classical-influenced Georgian era they just nicked ideas from wherever they were going buckshee and combined them indiscriminatedly as regards respecting the sources. Clapham does still have several fine Georgian houses and churches from when it was transforming from a rural village to desirable suburb for the new bourgeoisie.

The wilder areas of London are looking especially rich in natural profusion this year: everything woodland and common land that wants to flower seems to be doing it at the same time, and the scents from woodland paths weaving between the nettles and cow parsley are overwhelming in the warm sunshine. One has to make the most of it all before the council workforce comes along with its strimming and hedge slashing equipment, and I just love this time of year.

Not too bad down here! Hoping it will be today.

Cloudy and grey, wouldn’t be too surprised to see rain before too long.

We just had a brief downpour. Hopefully that's it for rain for today.

AT LAST - after 14 days of no rain, it is rodding it down.

Cool and changeable weather for this week, once the cold front that crossed Redditch earlier has cleared to the SE, but that should mean some rain for most, and it's expected to start warming up by the weekend.

The forecast, and indeed the weather map, suggests that some much needed rain might arrive. However, even if it does materialise the very strong wind will quickly remove any lasting benefit; the current attempt at drizzle isn't even reaching the ground, let alone doing anything useful.

Should come up nice and soft then, being washed in rain water.

                                - the extra rinse will do the laundry no harm at all.
