Rather a misty start, but when it cleared became a glorious sunny warm day, much of which I spent in the garden. A brimstone butterfly appeared in the afternoon and the winter flowering cherry was humming with honey bees. There seems to have been a change of personnel on the robin front, so a certain amount of skirmishing going on, plus loud singing. The forecast for the days ahead looks promising, so a snowdrop walk might be on the cards for Sunday - this year the flowers and the events have synchronised very well.

Sun broken throigh the early-morning mist a bit sooner today than yesterday: another glorious day with unbroken blue sky beckons. Certainly warm enough to be out on the front bench drinking coffee watching the dog-walkers going past. Crocuses and a miniature tulip brightening up the front garden too.

The sun took a while to break through the murk yesterday, and its effect was tempered by a sneaky chill breeze - fine for gardening, and wind sheltered nooks, but otherwise a top layer was needed. Today was clear from the start and here's real warmth in the sun; if the wind stays down it'll be warm. The flowers are really pinging out now, and are an incentive to do the weeding. Somewhat less welcome for me is the tree pollen - the wind direction is ideally placed to bring the offering from nearby hazel bushes, and birch and willow will soon join in/take-over. Never mind, my discomfort is less important than food for critturs and ensuring future generations, and I have the necessary in the medicine cupboard if it gets beyond discomfort.

I see the February record had been broken for the UK by this lunchtime, with 20 C attained somewhere in west Wales - the first time 20 C has ben recorded anywhere in the UK "in winter", which is classified at December, January and February; I would have expected that to have been exceeded this afternoon.
