A bright sunny day - the rain that originally was forecast for the morning evidently went through more quickly during the night than expected. I shall try and take advantage after lunch for fresh air and a stroll meanwhile washing is doing its thing in the breeze.

Took the opportunity the fresh sunny afternoon afforded to pop down to the local retail park & check out new CD players, as mine finally died this morning. Nobody seemed to know what a CD player was - it was as if I'd beamed in from another planet! Fortunately the young American neighbour Dave suggested I try plugging my DVD player into the same ports on the back of my ancient FM system, and.... hey presto, it works! My weeny DVD player I paid £14 for 6 years ago works for my CDs! Even better than the DVD player did, actually, as it was able to play the final tracks on a 78 minute Peter Pears/Benjamin Britten CD. The only drawback is that there is no dial on the machine to show which track one is on - but that's a small price to pay - or rather, no price at all! I shall have to give him an Xmas card now!

Overnight cloud down here, still persisting, kept the warmth in, so no frost, and temps a couple of degrees over the mean of 7 C - which remains the mean max daytime temperature from now on until the 20th February. So - spring will soon be here!

Remains not a bad day today. Been trying to rain! Quite cold, need the heating on, that’s for sure!

Necessity being the mother of invention S_A, but what a sad state of things when so many, in my view, are tooling up with the retro playing deck, and abandoning one of the best, low faff-factor, music playing machines in our lifetime.

It's been a lovely three days here in the Pennines: sunshine and temperatures around 7 degrees.

As far as December goes, today's weather is as fine as you could want. Sunny and mild, no need for a coat on my walk.

The same weather pattern in July would have given us a heatwave!

Minus one, with freezing rain. Might wait a bit before going on a walk... or not go at all.

Vicious, and I do mean vicious, NNE wind here - dry as I write but looks vengeful over the tops. If anyone is planning a high level walk today, I seriously urge extreme caution or discretion or creditable cowardice.

It's mainly a shoe issue. My trainers became unwearable earlier this month - so I asked for some more for Christmas. In the interim I have some flimsy pumps...

Well the weather forecasters predicted the weather properly today, Wild, wet and windy!
