The threatened heavy rain and thunderstorms failed to materialise here (anywhere?) and it's another hot day, not perhaps as hot as yesterday but a very nice July day nonetheless. If BBC Weather (still the Met Office?) must give out 'weather warnings' could they get the facts right?

Living where I do, the BBC forecast is at the very best a sort of rough maybe.
Looking outside I can frequently tell better.
Many farmers here use use https://www.yr.no/ for easily the most accurate forecast - online and I think app as well.Comment

An unexpected bout of drizzle gave the washing an extra rinse last night - but today (and most of tomorrow) looks set for lots of sunshine and temperatures around 20: perfick!
Enjoy the travel, Bbm - and the fortnight ahead even more so!

Some of the rain from Thursday's storms has been described as the heaviest witnesses had seen in this country. In view of this I'm surprised there hasn't been much footage, though I expect some will surface in the near future; meanwhile, this gives some impression: from the short clip the sound of the intense rainfall is even managing to drown out that of the thunder!
It seems to have cooled off quite a lot this morning - a very pleasant, cloudyish 22 C ou there, so all windows open in a desperate attempt to ventilate my stiflingly hot flat!Comment

Storms and heavy rain like that clip in Oakham do occasionally happen in this country especially at this time of year and can often be highly localised. I've seen two such here that were very like in that clip: in July 1972 and again in June 2009. It now looks as if there is to be a break in the settled weather, with temperatures returning to averages, and smallish amounts of rainfall, particularly on Tuesday-Wednesday.Comment
