Another murky morning, although it is due to clear up a bit around midday apparently. There was a sharp frost in the wee small hours, but the temperature has risen noticeably since and is milder than yesterday; that may change when/if the wind picks up.

Speaking of sharp frost, notwithstanding yesterday's daytime temperatures remaining on the low side, on embarking down the hill to my monthly gig at 8 pm I was astonished to find car rooftops sparkling with frost, and had to return indoors to get my warm gloves for the cycle trip. Coming back up the two mile climb to the summit at Crystal Palace I was probably taking a double risk, as by 11.30 the pavements and roadside edges were as slippery white as if a light snowfall had taken place, and I was intaking great gulps of freezing air, something inadviseable for a heart condition, I've been told.

        .

... driving down to Wiltshire yesterday for the annual meeting with my brother - from the vale of Pewsey looking up at the Marlborough Downs above Alton Barnes, the tops napped with a light covering of snow.

Some nice wintry pics on the BBC site -

Mayhap - but the sheep have been on the raddle for sure.

Not a very inspiring day methinks.

Hard to believe with all this murk lingering over much of the country that there's a thunderstorm taking place down in Penzance, right now! Next lot of rain for the entire country scheduled for next Wednesday - a lot of wind expected too.

Off to the Festival Hall on the bike in half an hour, high viz jacket at the ready...

More a question of poor visibility necessitating good visibility, vints!

It would be nice to see the view further than 3 miles again, too!

Absolutely! More of the same today, perhaps?

It brightened up a bit, here, this afternoon - just time for a 4-mile walk in Crystal Palace Park before dusk started to descend at 4. Left things a bit late for "autumn colour" - most of the trees are now bare.

We'll have to wait a couple more days before the weather changes, followed by a couple of wet and quite windy days, then we'll be into a regime of westerlies or southwesterlies bringing a breezy mix of funny periods (as me mum would say) and rainy spells - for everyone, with daytime temperatures back above 10 C, and no dangers of frosty nights. Should help scoop all those damp fallen leaves into convenient collection corners!
