There was one big clap of thunder about half an hour ago, and I was amazed to see it was over Camden Town - that's over 12 miles from here: must've been one hell of a thunderbolt. Jon Snow was reporting large drops of rain in Trafalgar Square, where earlier on I'd had the opportunity to smack the famous Trump inflatable on the bottom, which was strangely yielding to the blow. The effigy is not the giant that various politicians had been declaring a disgrace on the country. It stands a mere 3 metres high in all, including the tethering strings. Three lasses holding the "reins" wore white T-shirts bearing the legend "Trump baby sitters" on the backs. Back home half an hour later most flatholders were enjoying a barbecue - still no rain has fallen here.

35 degrees here in Bodrum with a strong breeze, so very comfortable. No sign of rain! Wall to wall blue sky!

Correction: I now see the spheric actually took place at Vauxhall, which is 6 miles from here, not Camden Town - which would account for the thunder sounding as loud as it did.

... fair torrential here in Hammersmith for at least the last hour - really testing of the gutters and drainpipes. Lovely having the windows open with vertical stair-rods of rain coming down...

Some of the humidity resulting from last evening's rain has spread out, making this morning's shopping expedition pretty unbearable, apart from St Sprees being much fuller than normal at 9.30 and no arctic lettuce or litre bottles of milk available, and half the aisles choked with trolleyfuls of stuff not yet shelved.

Never mind - only 2 more days of these very high temperatures. Sadly it all looks like breaking down completely next weekend, when a dear friend is holding a garden party in memory of her beloved husband of 51 years.

And the schools break up for their summer holidays.

                Same as it ever was.

Taunted by promising looking clouds yesterday afternoon which, as I expected, came to nothing. Thunderstorms forecast for Monday afternoon. Meanwhile too hot today, so glad I can choose what to do and where to be!

But not here, or likely to, today or for the forseeable future. The cold front bringing slightly cooler (but still considerably above average) temperatures is predicted to cross tonight, and then steal away like the burglar who didn't even avail himself of the loo. And next Saturday's low pressure trough, predicted until yesterday to be bringing a good half a day of rain and cooling winds to this neck o' the woods, is now just reduced to a feeble little warm front crossing Scotland. I need to check my records for 1976, whose summer is being compared with this one for its heat and longevity.

The focus of the showers is most likely over western parts of the UK while eastern areas are favoured to have fewer showers and some lengthier dry periods of weather.

Warm with some nice sunny spells here today. It can stay like this as long as it likes.

Meterologically speaking, it is the RAH effect.....bet its warming up nicely in there.......

Something to do with its shape making it radiate its heat more easily than were it to be square or rectangular, presumably.
