A stark reminder today that the wind is still from a cold direction. At lunchtime we were wilting at work, trying to avoid outdoor duties, windows open to catch the breeze, then in the space of an hour thick cloud completely blocked the sun, the wind increased and the temperature dropped like a stone; windows were closed! The thermometer at home was showing just under 18 degrees at 6-00pm, having reached a high of 27 in the shade during the day.

Really not sure I can give a weather report. I've been stuck in a basement all day where every professional agreed that my left eye is uniquely peculiar. They have never seen anything like it before. This fits me to a tee. Could be schisis. Could be long term retinal detachment with only minimal symptoms - previously nil - and no change whatsoever after two months.

In either case, operations are not currently envisaged. I have been given a gap now of five months after which there might even be a signing off although I will always have access to their A and E in an emergency as I am one of theirs forever. These people are, of course, very literal. All I think about in this context is a question along psychological lines : does the split mean more than the damage limitation detachment and is it the same? The two hour taxi in each direction was predictably awful - so many traffic blockages on account of the blue tracks designed for the survival of the airily fittest - and wonderfully revealing. Why. Central London is packed full of white middle class people cycling home in the sunshine apart from the traditional Muslim family who shared their coffee with Mum. Smiles all round. Obesity doesn't now exist there. Everyone is under 40. All are without sexuality and moderately good.

There are not many England flags beyond the Borough market. Far more exist here on the vehicles and front doors of all the Sarf London builders in these tree lined suburbs. That surprises me but I guess we are all susceptible to the media. And just before the Albany Road, not to mention the Maudsley which we don't as it was Merton and Longdon and next it is my father, that enticing glimpse of the dear old East Lane. It was almost tranquil in this heat. At Denmark Hill, and in what is the run up to Trump, I shed a tear for my Sandinista!:

I don't know how this wasn't on youtube. Now it is. Its such a great song

That's why it's been so blooming cold at night in my neck of the woods; it's also why most of the time during this hot spell it's not been as extreme as elsewhere. Does mean though that when the sun's turned off during the day it can sometimes get slightly too cool( especially when one doesn't have another layer to hand to put on) and the coast has not been as inviting as one might wish for visits.

Max temperature 21 C, gentle nor-easterly: just right for my 20+ mile ride over to Hammersmith today. Everything's looking parched, smells of dry grasslands wafting from Streatham and Wandsworth commons recalling the cornfields of East Anglia at harvest time, where I were a nipper, stayng on my uncle's farm. The only sign of possible rain comes this Friday afternoon, when heavy showers are likely to break out from the Midlands southwards. No doubt I shall get caught in one as I make my return journey, either from Cadogan Hall or from the anti-Trump march, which I might join for the final gathering with speeches in Parliament Square.

BBM, you always seem to be over there.
Might be cheaper to move to the Island and have regular holidays in Sussex ?!

                      Warm and muggy here.

Probably tweaked upwards by football and beer.

MrsBBM and me plan to one day. It’s on the cards. We are here for just a fortnight, unfortunately. Going to be a great day weather wise. Going to have a saunter to Rhyde, later. There’s a great little chippy there.

I would suggest Freshwater/Totland/Yarmouth or Bembridge ish to maximise your chances of avoiding any possible future fracking sites. Cowes/East Cowes and Ryde are probably ok too but they could be on lorry routes. This is not to suggest that the IOW is especially more susceptible to that industry than most other places in the south (although Cornwall, North West Devon, Pembs/Cards and East Anglia should all be unaffected). Quite how somewhere as unstable as Ventnor could not be categorically ruled out is beyond my understanding.

Sunny here but much cooler than recently.

We had a great time here again. I’ve been coming here ever since I was a child. My father’s family been living here for at least four generations.

Dark and pouring with rain over London (with a few distant rumbles of thunder) for the past 20 minutes, quite suddenly after a lovely sunny day....
"...the isle is full of noises,
Sounds and sweet airs, that give delight and hurt not.
                                Sometimes a thousand twangling instruments
Will hum about mine ears, and sometime voices..."
