Watch out when using Amazon ...

..as they have 'doctored' the way the webpage works when you are buying something and before you know it...even though you thought you were saying 'No, thanks'...you're signed up to a free trial with Prime. OK..it's easy enough to cancel ..well, actually they make that tricky...

So just be aware and don't automatically click as they would like you to do.

I had the Prime Trial recently, and it was OK and useful for a while. However, when I cancelled it I was nagged for a few pages - and as far as I could see it wasn't finally cancelled until it told me that I would no longer "get the benefit" - so one does have to read the pages quite carefully, otherwise it might not get cancelled.

I was given several other options, including paying monthly to stay in.

I did keep going until I got a positive confirmation that I was no longer in the trial.

It wasn't such a pain on previous occasions when I had trials.

On a slightly different matter, does anybody else find that things from their wishlist mysteriously end up in their basket ?

Incidentally, for anybody who is interested, other online retailers of books have been having a tough time of it over the last 9 months. It is a very complicated market, and not always clearly understood even by big players in the market, but it seems as though changes in Amazon Market place charging, both to sellers and the flexible delivery charges for market place items, have been greatly to the advantage of the main Amazon site.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

The increase in postage by Magpie seems to have increased the overall starting price by 50p - Nothing much under £2 inc p&p

And then there are the others who charge 10p for the item, and then chuck on £27.98 p&p.

Agreed - but the same is true of many other Software apps - "free" antivirus etc.

At the risk of being unpopular, I find Amazon Prime has many advantages, and I can quite understand why the High Street Retailers are having such a hard time. A big advantage for us,living in an outlying district, is that Amazon try really hard to deliver, and they mean what they say when they say "free one day delivery". This is in contrast to other major postal services where you are likely to get a "Sorry, we missed you" card ....

Now back to my latest MP3 download in Amazon Music...

                          Not so sure ...

                          Greetings from Amazon Web Services,

As mentioned in previous communication, your account 743352182062 will be billed by AWS Europe for charges incurred starting 1 July 2018. Please read the information below if you have not had the chance to do so.

                          How this affects you
So far, your account has not incurred any AWS service charges, so the Value Added Tax (“VAT”) described below will only impact your account if your usage level increases sufficiently to start incurring AWS service charges.
In addition to its headquarters in Luxembourg, AWS Europe will have branches in 15 countries: Belgium, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and the UK. In these countries, the branches will be treated as a local vendor for VAT purposes. AWS Europe (headquarters and/or branches) will begin charging applicable VAT and providing valid VAT Invoices. Accounts with Tax Registration Numbers should be able to claim a credit for such VAT in accordance with their circumstances and local laws and regulations. (Besides the few exceptions noted here, accounts in countries and associated territories that are not listed above will not experience any change to their tax charge/collection.)
The AWS Customer Agreement has been updated with AWS Europe replacing Amazon Web Services, Inc. as the contracting party for accounts in Europe, the Middle East, and Africa. By continuing to use AWS services after 1 July, 2018, you agree to this updated AWS Customer Agreement, which you can review here.
Things You Must Do Prior to 1 July
If you have a Tax Registration Number (also known as a TRN, VAT Number, VAT ID, or VAT Registration Number), visit the Tax Settings page of the AWS Billing Console and confirm/update the TRN and Business Legal Address for your account(s). The list of countries where AWS Europe collects TRNs, as well as the format of such TRNs, can be found here.
If you do not have a TRN or we do not display your country on the dropdown menu in the Manage Tax Registration screen, visit your My Account page of your AWS Console to confirm/update your contact address. Additionally, please visit the Payment Method page of your AWS Console to confirm/update your billing address.
We have prepared, and will be updating regularly, a list of frequently asked questions (FAQs) that can be found here. If you have additional questions after reviewing the FAQs, please create a case with Customer Support.
I think this is a maybe. What previous communication? It's just possible that I created a trial AWS account at some time in the past, but I doubt very much that I linked it to any funding account.

For what it's worth ...Amazon has just topped the Customer Satisfaction Index for the 6th time in a row. Pleased to see that Iceland has been rated as 'best supermarket' and that my bank is joint 5th overall!
