Weird atmosphere throughout the match. Quite a bit of niggly gamesmanship which I never like. It revealed tetchiness in terms of individuals' ambitions but on another level it was a bit like a friendly between two parts of the same country. That is, for all of the determined competitiveness, it somehow lacked bite and that Henry can sit quite happily on a Belgian bench arguably says it all. Even the panel seemed strange as if they had just been warned that something awful like a nuclear bomb was about to happen and had been advised not to say.

I had France ahead of Germany and Spain at the start of the tournament with a strong indication that they were my second choice behind the mainly useless Argentina. I didn't mention Belgium or England. But when push came to shove, I felt that Belgium would edge it. They didn't. I opted for France as the better opponents for England should we get to the final. Belgian height looked like a potential problem to me. Also the reputations of Lukaku, Hazard and De Bruyne in the Premier League could have been enough to have intimidated minds.

There is obviously quite a bit of talent in the French side. The name France sounds more like a tournament winner than the name Belgium. Mbeppe was often brilliant and the defence was solid but I thought Murphy was slightly overdoing it in order to find something to say. What will be will be and it will all be about who is best at pulling up trees at the end of day.

          Whoops.....sorry Saints.

Chris Sutton did play. He is one of more than 350 with just one cap.

I would need to check on the others as I haven't tried to memorise that list yet.

Too busy with maintaining the names of 500 classical composers in my head.

Emile Heskey was the diamond in the dust. He should never have had his England career cut short .....

Why do England managers go with the wrong players, so often?

E.G. Butch Wilkins, Emile Heskey, Rahim Sterling ......

I cheated and googled after my initial list !!

There is a very famous Hammer, who I should have remembered and a couple of Gunners.

                        Who did what?

                        Never played for England?

Denis Compton never played for England in football.

                        Charlie George got one cap.

I'm guessing Beefo has mentioned the Hammer - Billy Bonds.

Oh our posts crossed - I put in Bonds as you were writing.

My best mate in the 70s was a Hammers fan.

We parted ways when he kept getting the dice to roll in favour of Borussia Monchengladbach just because he quite liked the name.

My spread sheets for our standard divisions were fine but it made a complete mockery of the ones for our European championships.

                            (Yes re Davis and Campbell)

                              yes, I saw that.

Anyway, well done Les Bleus. deserved win on the night. Belgium never recovered their poise after the goal. Sets up a possible English Channel derby......

Sad to see the death announced from a brain haemorrhage of the great Scotland and Spurs Centre Forward, Alan Gilzean, a great hero; and from just down the road from here in Coupar Angus. R.I.P.
