By the way, I got an illustration of how long some of our footballing memories go back in the Guardian's Letters Page on Saturday, which I thought might entertain some in our wee band here:

As a lifelong Stockport County supporter, I’d have more sympathy with Southampton fans bemoaning another player leaving for Liverpool (Letters, 29 December) if their club hadn’t signed our manager, goalkeeper, two defenders and a midfielder as a job lot in the late 1990s.
    Ian Grieve
    Gordon Bennett, Shropshire Union canal

I'm sure ER will know better, but my memory and checking of records are suggesting that we in fact took David Jones, Paul Jones and Lee Todd , with possibly the odd coach thrown in.
And they could have had Lee Todd back for the asking........
Anyway, nobody much down here is complaining right now, with minds set on a big board Derby tomorrow night against Gurney's Eagles.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

I am not a number, I am a free man.

Yep, I think that is correct. And we helped repay the favour by sending you Gary Monk and Kevin Gibbens on loan a couple of years later .

And in later times of course we have to thank you for training up Rickie..........

Fair play to Palace, after only two days recovery and going behind, ( with two of their best defenders missing) that was a massive win.

Unfortunately we are in freefall, and only 3 home games left against non top 6 sides. Paying the price for a mediocre strike force and desperately cautious tactics. Tonight we should have gone for it, but tried to manage the game and imploded, as we have done so often. We are in huge trouble.

You can have ours. He really doesn't seem to have much idea at all, certainly not about how to beat bottom half teams at home.

From the perspective of forum English premier teams, not liking the look of the bottom half of the table.

Buddies had a great first half performance on Alba today but fortunate to hang on for a 1-1 by the end...though we could have stolen it at the death v the Greenockonians.

                  To paraphrase Macca's Golden Slumbers

Wish there was a way to win at home again
Wish there was a way to win away,
                  Sleepy defenders out the door
Let's have some management once more!

Just back from watching Spurs v West Ham. Two absolute screamers, the first of which actually woke Spurs up and made a game of it. Can't halo feeling Spurs through two points in the mud.

were you there, or in the pub?

Surprisingly small attendance of 50k, even given the horrible weather and the odd timing of the match.
