The 8 group winners and 4 best runners up are joined by the teams playing in Europe later in the competition.)

I've only just worked out how the Scottish Premiership works, and why a team in the bottom half of the table can end up with more points than one on the top half.

As far as Scottish Football is concerned these days desperate stakes require pretty desperate measures.
Tbf, the recent reforms have done something to make the leagues more interesting even it will never change the stark reality of complete predictability at the very top.
Commiserations to JC following the Buddies' 5-0 thumping by the truly majestic Jags. One TV commentator compared the latter to Brazil. Now, come on, we mustn't get too carried away this early in the season ...
Hope your team bounces back, John ... at least they were slightly better in the second half than the first? Only slightly, mind you. The fine folk of Paisley deserve much better than that.

The latest is that being in Division 6 has proved to be no barrier to demolishing the historical infrastructure and hence the club's soul:

But we've been here before - it was called Highbury to the Emirates.
Foster, Myhill
Trippier, Naughton, Alonso, Robertson, Riedewald
Zaha, Ritchie, Iwobi, Willian, Coutinho
Jesus, Benteke, Aguero
(Based on early fixtures and limited finances - still subject to change - eg possibly Naughton to Dunk; Iwobi/Benteke could go to Redmond and another Saint - Austin?)

Frustratingly, I'll be at a Prom this Thursday (sacrilege on this forum to say that, I know) so I'll tape the semi-final and do a Likely Lads-style exercise to avoid finding out the result -- somehow I doubt it will be a hot topic of conversation in the Albert Hall bars, but one can never be too careful :-)

Ferney mentioned Grassington the other day. Actually I have seen a football pitch in Grassington. What league are Grassington in? 15? Perhaps York can restart there!
One definition of private management not deserving its money - Neymar goes to PSG for £200m but can't play yet because people forgot to complete the paperwork.
Congratulations to Liverpool for having nearly every one of their goal scoring players injured - it is usually Arsenal but there is still plenty of time for that still to be so!Last edited by Lat-Literal; 05-08-17, 18:11.
