I have a query over a term commonly used in football-style parlance which has long perplexed me, and that is the reference by commentators to a "stone wall penalty" ( or possibly "stonewall" -- equally nonsensical IMHO ) , to describe a penalty which is awarded due to an incontestable infraction of the rules. "Stonewalling" in its true meaning of delaying or, alternatively, a rocky edifice seem to lack relevance. Whence the derivation ? A "stone-cold" penalty decision makes more sense to me, but speaking as a fairly dilatory footie-fan there may be critical nuances which escape me..

Unlike the Buddies, anton, who, after a run of three defeats, will need to be at their best to avoid a fourth when Celtic come a-visiting Paisley at lunchtime today.
