Mrs C was delighted to see that her childhood team, Falkirk, managed to reach the semis in the Scottish Cup last night coming back to beat Ayr Utd with a fine second half performance. The Bairns earned themselves a day at the National Stadium at the end of April against Inverness as the Old Firm drew each other in the other semi. Nice to have somebody to cheer on, I have to say.

It seems we have a forum derby by proxy in the semi-finals, as Ms Stoatfoe - a complete footie agnostic - is a native of Inverness. Those southern softies Falkirk may be grateful they didn't get drawn away to Cally in an earlier round, as it's the coldest place I've ever watched a game - a good excuse for a Bovril and a Scotch pie both before and at half-time though.

Grantham Town is the coldest I have experienced a football match. The main stand appears to be perfectly aligned to catch easterlies direct from the Urals.

But I imagine Inverness has its moments, as you describe.

          Huge game for Southampton tonight.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

My daughter lives nr Grantham. She doesn't complain about the smell of urinals.

The coldest I ever felt was one December day at The Hawthorns - sitting on the corner of a stand with a blistering wind blowing. Not the ground you would automatically think of as particularly high asl but it is!

Clearly you southern Saints are pampered by being lower but looks like global warming could be not a good idea for you!

3 points tonight then to help your cause by four positions.

Well tonight demonstrated that we are really very unlikely to survive. Poor team selection gifted the first 30 mins to Brentford who repeatedly opened us up with some fairly basic route one stuff, culminating in a rather badly defended goal.
After that Brentford stopped playing football, and played for time for an hour. 5 players “ injured ” between the goal and half time.
We were really poor going forward, no idea how to break down a well organised defence.
Hard to see how we recover from here. The quality is just absent.
And, no sour grapes, because we didn’t deserve anything from the game, but Brentford were an awful watch. As bad gamesmanship as I have seen in a long time, which is a shame.

And it rained the whole time from leaving the house to getting home. ……

Supporting a team unable to score a goal, Palace fans are reduced to hoping that teams below them also fare badly. (Sorry, ts)

You don’t have to hope that we’ll do badly. We will.

There's not a lot between Grantham and the easterlies, but Inverness is a few degrees further north, so it has the edge, so to speak.

Tonight's game was always going to end well, eh? I had a rehearsal in London that saved me from the temptation.
