All hail to the great David Lacey!
The Guardian’s former football correspondent, who has died aged 83, was beloved for his wit, craftsmanship and knowledge
The first writer to truly awaken me to The Art of Sports Journalism... I still turn to the Sports Pages first each day, unless The Apocalypse is upon us...(quite often just recently.......thank god for football....and F1 of course...."escape, escape" etc.....but then, you read about.... Cricket...)...
I recall Bobby Robson saying that David's was the first report he would look for after each England match...how much he respected his critiques, and learned from them.
Modern day successors.... for me, Barney Ronay and Jonathan Liew....

Here's Bertie with an unlikely visitor to Celtic Park's trophy room and two gags about false teeth. By the way, I have no idea what Bertie's's saying half the time either.
