It’s interesting that the teams from Group F, the so called Group of Death, have all been knocked out before the quarter finals. Rather than preparing them for the battles to come, it seems the intensity of their group games exhausted them.

"I do not approve of anything that tampers with natural ignorance. Ignorance is like a delicate exotic fruit; touch it and the bloom is gone. The whole theory of modern education is radically unsound. Fortunately in England, at any rate, education produces no effect whatsoever. If it did, it would prove a serious danger to the upper classes, and probably lead to acts of violence in Grosvenor Square."

In dreamland here, what a result
The last time I experienced anything quite so intense was the Liverpool - Barca CL semi in 2019....

Beautifully created first goal for Ukraine, one side of the park to the other with outside of the foot much in evidence....that little dink across the area was magical........ they can play a bit, don't worry...

There is definitely a learning process in tournament football, even if Greece didn't bother going through it. I think England probably learned a lot from the WC campaign.
And Kane could have turned the corner just when we really need him to.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.

Definitely a red. But Sweden were unlucky, hitting bar and post several times as well as an obstinate keeper.Last edited by EnemyoftheStoat; 30-06-21, 07:42.

Living every kick, cheering every move with the Wembley crowd here! The team are applauding the crowd and no wonder...I guess we should all applaud Mr. Southgate too.
Oh Happy Day....enjoy the moment, friends!
But you often need the luck... the Müller miss was that crucial piece of luck....
What a wonderful generosity of spirit from Jurgen Klinsmann now...
I really need a slow, quiet walk soon.... back later to see our next potential opponents...in a tournament like this, you wouldn't want to miss a single game, would you?

You could say that France should have beaten La Suisse; Netherlands should have beaten the Czechs; but look what happened...
Don't know what to do with myself today, after two remarkable days, two matches a day, as the high comes down.... I do have tasks and errands which I should get on with, but...Last edited by jayne lee wilson; 30-06-21, 13:10.

Before Jayne says it, Liverpool with the Kop. Endless trophies. Without the Kop...a Man City style smattering of them.
United . With the Stretford End......The theatre of Dreams. Without.....another big cold football stadium with an occasional day in the sun.
It is in part about perceived identity. The place and the people inform the players. I heard Lee Dixon ( top class Arsenal player) recently saying how Highbury in equal measure intimidated and inspired him. And it is the people that made it that way. Arsenal with that odd mix of North London "aristocracy", the Irish, the home counties refugees.
It's all part of a whole.
To sum up...it's the " Croatia " factor.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
