Still sick at heart up here..... thank God for the International Break, tactical recalibration needed....... (but who knows who will come back after it?...Injuries, quarantines....)
Oh don't worry Jayne, they probably won-t be referring back on several occasions during every game to the 7-2 for more than a few years.

Average mention of our 9-0 is now down to about 2 per televised game........

I think most football fans when they hear the name " United " on its own know or assume that it is the Manchester lot.
That's what I thought! But LMcD is right, and I really didn't wish to seem arrogant.

Well ... I doubt if Sean Bean does, and your assumption may not hold at Elland Road and quite a few other places.

Worth keeping the historical perspective...... this doesn't include 6-1 though which is a curse for some, a blessing for others....

(And we thought nothing could top Barça 2 Bayern 8?)....
But 2020-21 is still extraordinary - & I suspect will continue to be.... interesting to see what happens after this break though...

              Most, L, most........

If you say to a random group of football fans “ We are playing United next week”, their assumption in the main will be of a game involving the Red Devils, not Scunny, or the Millers, or even the Shrimpers.

I’m not saying that this is morally right, but it just is how it is ...

United we stand then, AG, as Judas Priest put it all those years ago.

Though I do understand fans of other Uniteds being united in their irritation at this state of affairs.

Edit: and talking of irritation, it seems the football authorities are experiencing it with regard to the current government policy of stopping things, any things in the hope that something nice will happen......

Those of us who support lesser sides and fallen giants expect the occasional large margin defeat but when the big boys get a hammering we own up to wearing broad grins knowing that normal service will be resumed for the next several matches!

Strange this, Cloughie! Honestly, I didn’t feel any better when Man City got hammered as did Liverpool. I was mortified how far we have fallen, but never was this made any better by others’ demise.

Still, whatever floats your boat, pal!

Many a long year ago, cloughie; late 60s I recall, St Mirren had a great start to the season and went unbeaten for about ten games and were sitting just off the top. Early November I headed to a foggy Love Street where the mighty Rangers were the guests. Our goalie was in great form that day and against the run of play the Buddies got a 1-0 win. I came home utterly delighted, but my Dad said: 'Always a problem when you beat Rangers, Son. The refs gang up on you then!' We lost our unbeaten run next game and then the next half dozen games all the way to Christmas, and then had a hellish run after the New Year. So you have to be careful about beating the big boys, at least that's what my old Dad reckoned!

He could have a point - the Owls got very few points last season after beating Leeds - then again I think there were other factors at play.

9-0 is a scoreline that rings a bell .....ah yes, we got hammered by some team up in Lancashire - 25 years or so ago, wasn't it?

When you told me in message 4183 that Ipswich Town (the Tractor Boys) was your team, I resisted the temptation to remind you of THAT scoreline. I remember that day well. I was living in West Sussex (near Hove-actually), with an ex-girlfriend, watching the scoreline increasing.

I also said, in message 4270 (don’t know how to quote from various messages, sorry), that I don’t take any enjoyment from teams getting slaughtered. Fergie himself once said that it isn’t necessary to humiliate the opposition, ‘cause one day, it could happen to you. And yet, we’re the ones who’re supposed to be arrogant…

At any rate, LMcD, it was 4th March 1975, in case you wanted to know.
