....I have to admit that is how I always played it....there's the stoppers and then there are the Billy Wizz's you have to negate....and enjoy seeing them pick themselves up after....LOL....if you can do an accidental killer thro'ball well....pints all round....

Very sorry to read that Jack Charlton has died, aged 85.

One of the best managers the Owls ever had - he was the architect of the Boxing Day Massacre and the subsequent promotion to The old Div 2 and then close the two following seasons to the Old Div 1 - he resigned on the grounds he was not quite good enough to finish the job then Howard Wilkinson took over and completed the job the following season.

Sad to hear the news about Jack Charlton. i thought he had been on the media not very long ago.

A record as a player and a manager that unarguably puts him among the greats of his time. I suspect that he learned a great deal ( and a trick or two) from Don Revie.

But the kudos helped ease the pain , if only a little.......

Edit...TBF, we did get a pen out of it. Straight red, and 3 game ban wasn’t even thought of in those days though..

I was good enough to always get the ball Teams, king of the slide tackle....and of course less rigourous 'taken from behind' rules in 60's....being mostly a rugby player, you'll know where i'm coming from....head on....I was lousy going forward. If I ever did get forward on a run down right wing....when it came to crossing I was too weak/tired to put in a good cross. BUT in box I was pretty good in training....never got chance in a match. You know what its like - first games period of first year at school, master decides what you are, and that is what you remain....

.... I guess these days they say "make him feel uncomfortable"....but in mine it was "give him one"....and you may remeber i'm sure Edgey this was in the day when pulling back really was considered unsportsman like, and frowned on....and the follow through on a slide tackle taking out the man was -just excitement, not an infringement....of course everything, due to pitches ,balls, boots was much slower....when I started moulded studs and low cut boots were newish....(and as I was saying yest', just running around and kicking was tiring, and continuous really high balls didn't happen, the ball trajectory generally much more shallow.)

An extraordinary capitulation by the foxes last night. Bompey looked as though they wouldn’t score in a month of Sundays, when , on trend, Leicester gifted them an equaliser, promptly conceded a second and got a man unnecessarily sent off to boot, and then fell apart completely.
This mania for passing the ball out, often requiring slick passing inside ones own box against a high press, is a fashion that must pass (!) soon, especially for the non top 6 sides.

Bompey have a slim lifeline, and West Ham must be feeling very nervous.......

....if it passes, some teams might never score.....I'd advocate that the training manuals say "don't do it in the first 5 minutes, warm up, get a feel first"....

Palace are a mystery. Yo-yo team par excellence. Recent record - won 4 on the trot then lost the next five. In those five they have mostly given lack-lustre performances. The three goals conceded to Leicester - also not great at the moment - were gifts as a result of primitive errors. All matches live on the box so full access to all the gruesomeness on display, although admittedly they did play OK in losing 3-2 to Chelsea. Thank goodness they built up enough points in their decent spell to stay clear of relegation danger. Next three are Man U, Spurs and Wolves - all eminently losable.

,,,,,yes you need some new blood in summer [oh it is summer]....they are a team I like to have in league....need to replace some older players (who are perfectly good experienced players but short of a yard now)....I think all teams must start playing with their numbers to their goal....Everton yest' as shown on MOTD dire at this....but it is a ailment that many clubs are steeped in....Palace do at least go forward even if they miss many chances....take back what I have said in past ref Roy (but i ask you Harry Kane taking corners....lol)
