Team spirit in abundance from the Icelanders...I think their yellow fuel light must have been flashing loud and long!
Good to see the Icelanders hold Argentina to a draw. Sad to see the Australians undone by bad luck and the VAR penalty decision against them. All in my humble unbiased opinion of course !!
Peru gave a fine , zippy performance against Denmark, undone by indecisive finishing. A shame, they deserved the points. VAR worked much better here than in the Argentina game.
Look forward to seeing if Peru can turn the French over. They looked distraught at the end, need to turn the emotions into a positive.I suspect that they got a big lift from wearing the Saints L1 promotion winning kit........

A lot can be said. I'm aware - always have been - that this is a radio forum. One has to plan for when the eyes will not be what they were, For now, fine and I'm lucky in any case for being so for sound. I'm going to do the unexpected : celebrate commercial radio, I am actually enjoying Talksport. It's zippy in a The Big Breakfast way. But one can't half tell the difference between the presenters in their 30s and the 50s/60sh. There is an "I suppose I'm a Dad now though still a kid" with the former. The latter work better for me for not being that and so long as they sidestep illness. Ill is the modern media's sex or the minefields that the mainly admirable Diana campaigned against. Diana wouldn't have wanted ill in this way.
I'm very for Andy Goldstein and his cohort Jason Cundy. They are doing good things. The latter, with one testicle, not letting it bother him and going knowingly for the controversial. The former a wind-up who is genuinely very funny not that I would want to be on the end of his spiel. The Two Mikes continue to do their thing with aplomb. Sparring off each other, Parry is all old Fleet Street and his time in America and pots of money, flaunted. Ludicrous and knowing it as pointed out by the other, Graham, but somehow it works. Nostalgia. The offball. A bit of "actually he it's often right". And then for the more cerebral, Hawksbee and Jacobs. Throughout the station is games and quizzes, sometimes aided by the verteran Martin Kelner, and it is without question commercial radio's saving grace. Commercial broadcasting has to be commercial or it's nothing. It's the most colourful thing since Channel 4 in the 80s/90s.

Flattered to deceive, ts...kinda like the Chileans really...buzzing around all over the place...shoulda coulda! I love the nicknames - Flaco (Skinny...that's the manager); striker Paolo Guerrero is El Depredador (The Predator); he came on replacing Edison Flores and I heard myself thinking, 'That guy's got big ears.' Sure enough he's known as El Orejas - Big Ears.

Wonderfully lively, committed Group Games! Just now Germany 0-1 Mexico in the Luzhniky which, as the commentator said, seemed more like the Azteca so thronged it was with Mexican Fans, Colours and Voices...terrific atmosphere...! Some terrific teamwork from Mexico too. Brilliant counter-attacking goal!
Compelling game again... now for Brazil-Switzerland...

Didn't see that one coming, Jayne. Another brilliantly committed performance by the underdog!
It's causing arguments in out household, with the BBC referring to the goalscorer as "Lozano", my son referring to him as "Lothano" and Yours Truly saying it should be "Losano".

All I can say, Eine, is that he wasn't on the losan team!

Yes, very good game that. Glad Mexico won. The Brazil game kind of became rather lack lustre in the second half.

I hope we'll see Marcus Rashford in the 2nd half soon....Bright start, but after that.... where have Kane and Stering gone in the last 20 minutes?
Lingard seems to be our only striker... Kane should have had a pen, by way of VAR or not...
