...maybe they need to shift their league games to midweek, anton. Good result, by the way. Dundee Utd manager, Jack Ross, formerly of Buddies and Sunderland, was sacked yesterday after their 0-9 pumping by Celtic at the weekend.
Palace Brentford was a rather frustrating watch. Had its moments with plenty of effort on both sides but not enough to trouble goalies. Great opening goal from Wilf Zaha but Palace couldn't defend the lead with Brentford's man heading in unmarked in the 88th min. Brentford should probably have nicked it right at the end which would have sent me to bed thoroughly rather than just slightly disgruntled.

Saints had a surprisingly straightforward evening against Chelsea.
We were opened up too easily a couple of times before their opener, but after tye equaliser we were in control and pretty comfortable until the inevitable last 10 minute seige.
I think we have found some gens in the new signings, and with a fair wind may well be ok this season. Chelsea were, it has to be said, pretty mediocre in the main, but still a good scalp for us.
I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
VAR much in focus after last w/e games, but arguments for and against seem to parallel those relating to driverless vehicles i.e. that both will reduce mistakes and/or bad decisions/fatalities, but cannot be expected to eliminate them entirely.

I got the impression that some of the issues this weekend concerned when referees were called over to check their decision, the assumption being that their original decision had been incorrect and they are under pressure to overturn their original decision. The Newcastle decision was one such call, from the look of things. They're supposed to be introducing it in the SPL this season, but no sign so var - I'm not sure we even have goal line technology yet.

Yes -- so the focus has moved from questioning the decision of a fallible on-pitch official (ref or linesperson, whatever)
to that of questioning the decision of a VAR official watching a monitor -- that's progress, innit ?
