Our national team is doing the English game credit now, and you haven’t always been able to say that.
The tournament has been a ray of sunshine in bad times, and, bread and circuses or no, I’m glad of that.

We are a nation who apologise when people step on our toes or bump into us. It simple isn't polite to win anything - and seeing those last two sweet-natured boys lining up to take their penalties one knew that defeating the other side just wasn't in their souls. Strangely, I find it heartening.Comment

Genuinely terrible, rather than odd .Either senior players bottled it, or Southgate messed up the choice.
