Football in its present form really only started once TV started to broadcast "Match of the day" ie wwll within the lifetime of many of today's fans - before this it was fundamentally a local affair - the clubs having in the main been founded post WW1 often by religious organisations with the support of local industries , the mass following was for checking the 'pools' one of the few legal gambles available at the time - once TV became widespread and broadcast rights brought in big money then the fat cat owner became a typical model for the best performing clubs - very much a product of late capitalism.

So thats the ESL binned, now the same thing needs to happen to the PL plans to support vaccine passports and their illusory “safety “.

Our usual last minute defeat at tottenham.
          Seems to happen every year.

Most league clubs were founded well before WW1.

Well they’ve got the no manager bounce.

Now something to remind me of better times - 30 years ago the Owls beat Man U 1-0 in the Rumbelow’s Cup a few weeks before leaving the 2nd tier at the right end. It was the samecday I ran the Stratford-upon-Avon half marathon - I don’t think the sane things will happen again anytime soon as we prepare to go down for the proverbial third time this century!

Staggies 1 - Buddies 3...the very remote chance of relegation is now a thing for other SPL teams to concern themselves with. Quarter-final against Killie on Saturday is next on the agenda...we'll see!

(No need to) pity the poor German football fan ....
The MOST expensive Bundesliga team to support if you want a season ticket (standing) is SC Paderborn - 225 euro. Many clubs charge well below 200.
For 70 euro you can buy a share, with voting rights, in Borussia Dortmund.

                    ... I liked Caitlin Moran's contribution -

"As the world of men exploded with fury and sorrow over the planned European Super League — before the whole thing was embarrassingly ditched 48 hours later — some people chose to look on the bright side. Wolverhampton Wanderers, for instance — who, on Tuesday, updated their Twitter bio to declare themselves 2018-19 Premier League champions after they finished seventh behind the six clubs who planned to bugger off and take the football with them.
As we say in Wolverhampton: “To be fair — fair enough.”"

                      .
The "Clubs" didn't decide - the ignorant owners did. Many of us who love those clubs and define them - fans, players, managers - made our feelings clear, passionately and angrily, as soon as we could, campaigning and spreading petitions and protesting outside stadia from early Monday Morning.

And we won. We got our game back. If Caitlin Moran still thinks football is a "world of men" (Oh for Gods sake - I wonder when she last read the daily sports pages) she is woefully, and self-servingly out of date. (But in the true football cities like Liverpool it was never true anyway, unless you allowed gender stereotypes to dictate your life to you...). Oh how easy it is to write tabloid-style claptrap like that for a cheap bit of football-hating acclaim........

Dunno who was behind the Wolves tweet. They are currently 12th.

(BTW V, thanks for the tip about the mineral water - ordered substantial shipments of the Badoit and Celestins from Frenchclick recently - and in 500ml, much better for me...Cheers for that.)

Well, we got the status quo back anyway. It will take a lot more concessions, from UEFA for a start, to give us back our game.

I may be wrong but I don’t think that Caitlin was trying to do more than inject a little humour into the situation. At a neutral at least give Wolves deserve credit for their fairly successful run in the top tier after they pull themselves up from League One!
Interesting that the ‘Big 6’ are currently in the ‘Almost Big 9’

A pertinent, intelligent and rather apt comment in my opinion.

I wish individuals will stop mentioning that neither the managers nor the players were responsible. We know they weren’t. You might as well tell us that ten inches of rain is twice as much as five.

Having now had some time to think things through, much as I love Neville’s idea of points deduction, this would be penalising the managers, players and fans.

No, hit the owners where it hurts most – their pockets! They will then of course cry that there is now no spare cash for new players, but I for one, a born-again Man Utd fan, will go through anything to see the Glasers hurt.

Additionally, I wish certain posters will stop trying to defend their team's actions, or that one team was "holier" than any of the others. All six were guilty, and I must admit, Man Utd were the ring-leaders.

Aha, but...but....how will you 'punish' owners without damaging financial futurs of clubs? Bet they're so interwoven - delierately? Could be v.tricky.
All Liverpool fans I know are just mightily relieved at the mo.
Bit inclined to ask more abot the German B-liga model?

Points deductions always penalise the managers, players and fans. Notably they do not seem to happen in the Prem - the EFL specialise in them and usually as a way of kicking the victims when they are down.
