Who do exist now of course. The FIFA rankings still show Messi at the top (amazing 30-yarder against PSG recently, but in open play), but in 8th place....wait for it....James Ward-Prowse...
Back in the day you just waited for Nedved or Eder to get the chance.....(Zico was more of a ball-caresser...)
Later, Roberto Carlos had one helluva showreel...
David Luiz can still do it, though his rangefinder isn't always so reliable...
One to brighten up your day....

Did the Liverpool board refuse to sign Frank Worthington at some point? It seems he may have held a little grudge against them.
He spent one season at Southampton, for which he is held in very great esteem. His best goal scoring days were behind him, but he was hugely influential, as part of the team that finished second, and lost a cup semi final in heartbreaking fashion, when we were probably the best team left in the competition.the fans really took to him, not surprising when he produced moments like the pass from midfield in the 83-84 season BBC Goal of the season.
And the goal that Jayne posted. If somebody told me that was the best goal ever, I don’t think I would argue too hard.
One of a wonderful breed of footballing entertainers that the 70’s specialised in.....you know who they were !!
RIP Frank, thanks for the memories.I will not be pushed, filed, stamped, indexed, briefed, debriefed or numbered. My life is my own.
I am not a number, I am a free man.

Following successful transfer talks - a club record £150,000 deal was agreed in 1972 - the move was put on hold when Worthington failed a medical after having high blood pressure.
Shankly was unfazed, instructing Worthington to take a holiday to Majorca to reduce his blood pressure.
"My father had just died so I was probably suffering from some form of anxiety, but I was also enjoying the fruits of being young," he explained.
He was dating Miss Great Britain at the time, but chatted up another woman on the plane to the Balearic Islands before having a 'threesome' with a Swedish mother and daughter, and then another romp with a Belgian lady.
He returned to Anfield for a second medical, and failed again, leading Liverpool to call the move off.
Shankly sent some flowers to Worthington’s mum.
