I hope the VAR won’t interrupt too much of the game. I watched the Iran v Portugal game and really what a farce!

Leo the Great is finally turning it on! Turn on yourself and see! Can Musa match him?

Well he tried his best! Wonderful, pulsating match in what's turning out to be a wonderful tournament. Few really poor teams, passion, commitment and attack-minded flair in abundance... (and this time even England have joined the party). So many spectacular goals!

Argentina 2 Nigeria 1 was stunning, the best game since Spain-Portugal, so eventful it felt about 10 minutes long. And VAR was, thankfully, well used tonight. Amazing number of people still need to be reminded about the difference between handball and ball-to-hand... and more penalty-area wrestling penalised too.

Two great strikes from an often frantic, error-strewn Argentinian team... but what a perfect, exhilarating, picture-book volleyed winner from of all people - Marcos Rojo! Quite a moment. 86th minute, stadium goes crazy, the whole squad charged across the pitch...... remember the ticker-tape over the River Plate?
France v Argentina on Saturday looks tasty, doesn't it? Wow.

Only caught the second half of the Argentina game, but it was a stirring encounter. Would almost have been better suited to a cold January afternoon. Rojo’s finish deserved to win any game. Amazing support in sheer numbers that the various South American teams have had .
England fans seem to have lost their appetite for foreign travel in vast numbers. My one experience ( Stadio Communale Turin 1980 v Belgium ) put me off for a very long time.

Great to see the Argentina v Nigera ia match. It’s a pity that Nigeria lost, as they most certainly put up a great challenge. I think England could put up a great challenge to Argentina!

My God, are you watching this? Taking it all in?
                  GERMANY ARE OUT!

Tumultuous end to S. Korea 2 v Germany 0...9 minutes of injury time ..Korea got their 2nd because the German Keeper was playing as an extra forward... excellent VAR again...

                  What an amazing tournament!

The best first round I can remember. Could this be the year when the dominance of the top half dozen ends, at least temporarily ?

Germany didn't deserve any better over the three games. Very strange for Mexico ending up hoping for a favour from Korea.

More shocks in store tonight ?

Germany knocked out of the World Cup - beaten by a team with nothing to play for! Wow!

Their gift for organisation went to pieces when the powers that be decided that F would come before E.

It was great to see Neuer get caught up the field after all these years. Son's pace at that stage of the game was totally outstanding. Goal of the tournament, so far, as far as I'm concerned anyway.

I agree. Perfect timing by Son!
