    The crime writer died peacefully at his home in Oxford on Tuesday, his publisher says.

      Very good writer. It's not often that a spin off works out very well, in the form of Lewis. RIP.

            I met Colin Dexter once at a function in Oxford about 25 odd years ago and he was a very warm, humorous man, with a love of opera and Wagner in particular. He told me that Die Walküre was his favourite. I've never watched any of the Morse or Lewis TV series but loved the books.
