    Waiting for bbc.co.uk

Are others here experiencing lengthy waits to access the BBC site of late? I keep getting stuck at "waiting for bbc.co.uk" and/or "waiting for static.bbc.co.uk". I find that if I abandon the attempt and try again, sometimes I get the same problem again, and sometimes I get straight through on the a further attempt. Any techies know what's going on. Google is not much help, searching for "waiting for static.bbc.co.uk" offers URLs which exhibit the same wait.

No problems here - the home page popped up immediately when I entered bbc.co.uk. just now. (Mind you, I normally access the BBC via the News page, which I have saved as a 'Favourite', and that's been fine, too).

I think the news site must work on a different set of servers because it's been available when the rest of the bbc site is down. That said, no trouble accessing bbc.co.uk for me either.
It isn't given us to know those rare moments when people are wide open and the lightest touch can wither or heal. A moment too late and we can never reach them any more in this world.

often a sign that the site comprises several servers accessed via some traffic shaping mechanism that is supposed to even out load - possibly one or more of servers is having problems - if you rety the shaper picks another(+ working) server for you.
There is also traffic shaping built into some protocols that if the link appears to have a large delay(eg by lack of response) then no further data is supplied until a response has been received - by stopping and forcing a page reload you might be re-initialising this mechanism.
I often find BBC goes slow but not sure if merely too much contention at my local BT ISP as situation usually very different with similar equipment when I'm on IoM - however trying to get BT to do anything is impossible tho not sure any of the big ISPs are any better)

This evening I have been trying since 18:50 (I even tried using multiple tabs). After 20 minutes I finally got into the schedule page and was able to start up the HD Sound facility (some 10 minutes into "Live in Concert" ). They make such a fuss trying to get us to use the facility, then effectively lock us out. Poor show!

I have always found that the I-Player stops and starts. If I sit down to watch an hour of television on it, I expect it to freeze on about four occasions and have to restart it. I haven't noticed any big problems with the other BBC sites.

Not a techie atall, but I think it might be your internet connection or ISP that is causing the i-player to stop and start rather than the site itself. I generally have no problem connecting to bbc.co.uk.

It's strange. Some BBC pages load quickly and easily, others take ages if they load at all. I can get straight to the Radio 3 Home Page, but getting the schedule to load is a bit iffy, then some programmes' pages will load without problem while others present considerable problems. I think Frances offers the most likely rationale. I'm pretty sure it's a BBCi, rather than an ISP, problem. To be more certain of getting to hear tonight's offerings form 21:30 to midnight in HD Sound I have spent about five minutes getting it to load and play now. I do tend to find the HD Sound stream more reliable, once it gets going, these days. I use to get fare more terminations of the stream than I do now.
