Not to undermine the thrust of burning dog's post but as a matterr of accuracy, the 2014 World Cup will be in Brazil.

The guy's wearing a kilt, EA, so, if the queer streets of Edinburgh are anything to go by, he's almost certainly either English or American ... :cool2:

Very daft of me to forget that I'm already in 2015 for some reason

worthy of being on the news schedules because it sums up modern political and corporate life, as well as modern sport.
Too many snouts in too many well filled troughs.

A man in a kilt can be an upsetting sight to some, apparently

Scotty, you surely remember that claiming that Scotland wasn't interested in cricket brought derision onto an SNP MSP a couple of years ago? According to Wickipedia (that well-known source of accurate information)
"The first recorded cricket match in Scotland took place in Alloa in 1785. It would be another 80 years however, before Scotland played their first full match, against Surrey in 1865, where they won by 172 runs. The first Scottish Cricket Union was formed in 1879, and the national team beat Australia by 7 wickets three years later."

The current national team hasn't been so fortunate, & echo the results of their footballing brothers -
"The Scotland national cricket team represents Scotland in the game of cricket. " (well, there's a surprise) "They were elected to associate membership of the International Cricket Council in 1994 after having severed their cricketing links with the England cricket team two years earlier. This allowed them to qualify for the Cricket World Cup in 1999 but they lost all their five matches. Furthermore, the team were unable to qualify in 2003."

Wasn't there an English Redcoat garrison based there ... ?

Centre, front row - with the blue outfit on.

Mind you, the soldier on her right doesn't have any reason to look so pleased with himself

(should we have a symbol we could use as a 'smut warning'?)

I have played a fair bit of cricket "over the border" in St. Boswells where some of the players, occasionally, played in kilts!

All the fuss has died down now, thankfully. Can't help thinking the British media deliberately hyped this story in a sort of sour grapes reaction to not getting the World Cup. And as for the English FA trying to portray themselves as some sort of honest broker... please!

i believe there was a definitive thread on the spread and adoption of cricket a while back ...here or elsewhere ...

FIFA is the EU Commission the UN the ...you name it ... gravy trains for the gangsters who are not in the Mob, only related by marriage as it were ... it is a story well worth the airing it has had and Blatter's escape is woeful .... well done the FA or Trieseman, the besetting sin of life these days is to not make a fuss, or just walk away in disgust turning to apathy ... the problem with the coverage is that it has been so tame ... meanwhile we can take a look at the Care Commission another body truly madly and deeply focused on the expense account and honorariums eh? ..and then just move on ..... ?
According to the best estimates of astronomers there are at least one hundred billion galaxies in the observable universe.

Scotty forgets (or maybe doesn't know) that English cricket's most notorious captain, Douglas Jardine, was a Scot.

And that England's possibly next most notorious cricket captain (but for entirely different reasons) was Mike Denness, another Scot.

The moral of this saga .....?

If you want a quiet life and a happy team, avoid appointing Scottish cricket captains
